My '88 GT- Gauge problems...

Hi Guys,

I've been on these forums since about '05 but I just bought my first Mustang back in June. It's an '88 GT. It's a little rough, but the price was right. Anyway, I've been picking away at some of the things wrong with it. I'm not a mechanic by any means, but some things I'm comfortable with.

The speedo didn't read right and the odometer/trip didn't work at all before. But recently, I picked up a used instrument cluster on ebay and got it installed without much trouble. The speedo and odo/trip now work fine, but the tach is way off, where before it was working fine. All other gauges/lights on the panel work. The tach is just way too high. It goes to red line when revving to about 2000.

What I've thought about doing is putting the old cluster back in but swapping in the new odo/trip. But I don't want to pull everything apart again unless I'm pretty sure it will work. I guess the question is, is the tach on the new cluster bad? Or did I do something wrong? Hell if I know.

Here's a few pics. These are from right when I got it. I've taken out the boost gauge and scraped off the pony decal from the rear window. Thanks in advance for any help.

Jim

Nice ride!! Sounds like you may have something not hooked up right behind the cluster or like you said the tach on the new cluster may be bad.
