It's been a long while but we did a ground up on this '84 Mustang GT Turbo Convertible. The guy bought it off ebay and it was basically a rolling shell with half the parts and no instructions. No engine, trans installed...only the interior.... SUPPOSEDLY ready to paint but actually far from it. We had to strip the jambs because of the prior owners work that was not done properly(no hardner in the clear)....installed a new convertible top, bodywork, paint, gather MANY missing parts and assemble the car. The hardware brought to us that was supposed to be for the car wasn't even from a Ford let alone this car. Lots of scavenging and hunting for parts but in the end turned out good.....Should be delivering it to the owner within this next week

The hood scoop is factory original....wheels ofcourse are not. It is a GT Turbo Convertible....one of the rare 2.3 Turbocharged GT Mustangs produced ONLY in 1983 and 1984. This car was originally Silver with a black top...1 of 93 produced but the owner wanted it white with a white top. The car is basically restored stock except for the wheels and color combo. The original wheels were the TRX wheels which have $200 a piece price on tires so the owner wanted a different wheel where he wouldn't have to mortgage his house to buy tires.

These cars are difficult to restore in a few areas because many parts are not available or reproduced.

Yes, my list of cars has gone down.....The force is off balance and I am in single digits. The last time this happened I rebounded and had over 20 cars in the following months. I sold off my Super Coupes and 2 SVO Project cars and I decided to give up on the Turbo Coupe project and it donated the Tremec to my SSP car. Just trying to thin the herd a little bit and get a few other projects finished.

Cool . .That's the first '84 I've ever seen with a hood scoop. Learn something new everyday . . . . .

EDIT: Man, I love learning new things. Just read that some early '84 GT's had the rear facing hood scoop, and all Turbo GT's had the scoop. Thanks Paul!!

Wow - looks just like an '84 20th Anniversary model minus the rocker stripes and running horse emblems. I remember seeing an Anniversary edition new on the lot back then and it's my favorite of all the fox Mustangs...very nice job!

SVOPAUL,
Since you are low on cars, I still need to get my 85.5 SVO over there for you to look at. It has 10,400 original miles, with the original tires still on it. My wife says I need to sell it because I don't drive it.

An '84 vert. How bendy is she? I know you have to put a LOT of stiffening into verts of this era, and even then these Foxes were not known to be the stiffest bodies out there.

Any hassles getting the doors to align?

The Fox platform is flexible no matter what....I can even see flexing in my SSP Coupe. Convertibles are worse but the chassis can be stiffened significantly with a good chassis system like the Kenny Brown Extreme Matrix kit. This particular car is not getting any of that but there is no problems with alignment, etc.....now if you put a fox vert on a lift then you can visibly watch the chassis flex....

The SN95 verts got much better but Ford really nailed it with the S197 platform...those verts are built well and not anywhere near as flexible as the earlier Mustangs!

Technically Comp Prep SVOs were made during all 3 years but in '84 they were called "Option Delete" and not really named "Comp Prep" until '85. You could also mix/match options during the '84 model year. The only true Comp Prep so to speak during 1984 was the MAC Tools race car which also was the ONLY white SVO produced in 1984. During 85 and 86 you could only get them one way...No radio, No A/C, Different spring rates, manual windows, manual locks, No sunroof.

I owned a white '86 Comp Prep a few years back and I have a local customer with a black '86 Comp Prep with only 18K miles on it.

Thanks for the facts i read a old MM&FF magazine (from 98 i believe) and i'm pretty sure it was a 85 1/2, but anyways it was a comp prep svo and it was low mileage, it said that the 85 1/2 comp prep is the rarest and most powerful svo, is that true?

According to the fox body guide, 85.5 had 205hp and 248 torque, which is more than any other year SVO. It doesn't mention anything about engine upgrades for comp prep models so is the comp prep option just a delete kit and no HP increase? It also has a little blurb about a twin cam 2.3 ford put in a test vehicle that had 275hp!

I believe the comp prep was a delete everything option, kind of like the cobra R of svos. but paul would have to verify that. the 4 cam car was sick, they should of made it.
