GT or Cobra? Any Biggie?

Well, im supposed to go purchase a "1991 Mustang GT/Cobra" or at least thats what the owner calls it... The car is in mint condition and its a gt so i dont really care whether its a cobra or not but just so i know is there any major difference in value whether its a gt or a cobra? and what are the major differences?

From what ive read and heard so far the differences seem to be:
-8th vin digit = "D"
-10 extra horses
-Stiffer Handling
-Ford Emblem Changed To Horsie Emblem(Grill)
-5.0 Emblem Changed To Cobra Emblem(Fender)
-and in some cases ive even seen the 3stripe horse mags changed to what looks like, in my best description "fan blade mags"

Now i couldnt care much for these minor differences but is there a major difference in value? I know fox bodies arent the mustangs to go to for value but would still like to know if there is any major value difference.

Thanks in advance

There were no cobras made in '91. So It's a GT, and I'd determine the value based on that, unless the car has some major mods that would increase value. Hope that helps.

The first thing I did was look at your location.....Canada....and that explains everything. Yes the car is a GT...however in Canada they also called them Cobras. I owned a Canadian Spec '85 Mustang GT Cobra and the only difference from a regular GT was the 180km speedo(mph in small print) and the Cobra decal on the rear spoiler.

SO yes...it is correct but it just means it is a Canadian Mustang. We never had those available here in the U.S. through the dealer but for some reason they did it in Canada.

What you have listed for specs is for the '93 Cobra which was a legitimate car made by SVT....and not the Canadian version I speak of.

Hope that helps clear things up a bit

Paul, I believe the reason Ford named the Canadian Mustangs Cobras is so they could keep the "cobra" name copyright through the '80s.

Yep, you are correct. They were able to keep the copyright on the name that way. Same as the Australian "Falcon"
