ok my brakes locked up on me the other day. the front driver side caliper appeared to have froze up on me. after removing the old caliper and puting on a new caliper everything seemed to work fine. now heres the kicker, after drivin it for less than 20 miles the new caliper locked up and would not release. i have no clue what would be causing this to happen and i was wondering if anyone had had this problem or knew what was wrong. obviously it cant be the caliper because the new one did the same thing. so anyones input would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

 

What model Fox is it? Some calipers have phenolic(plastic) pistons which are known to lock up and it is entirely possible you got a bad replacement caliper....howevere it is also possible you have a blockage in your brake lines or in the proportioning valve.

Did you flush the brake system and add new fluid? Most people dont and that is the number 1 reason people have problems down the road...fluid should be changed at LEAST once every 2 years.

 

Paul, What color should the fluid be anyway?

 

Clear/very light tan....if it is brown or darker and/or you can't see through it then it is overdue for a change.

 

Replace the rubber brake line. Its possible that theres a cut flap of rubber inside and its acting like a one-way valve and letting the fluid apply pressure but not back off.... I've seen that a few times.
