Arrow going to get a mustang and need some help!

hi all this is my first post. so i want to say hello to everyone. and let you know you have a grate forum here.

im about to buy a 1990 mustang LX 5.0L coupe, with a 5 speed tranny.
now this car had a factory 4cyl engine in it. and they did the V8 swap, i have no idea of what year the tranny and engine is from. but it look like it an 87-93 mustang engine and tranny. by what the owner is telling me. but hes not sure because he didnt do the swap, the previews owner did it.

now the engine idles nice and revs up very quick.
the car has weld rims, coold air intake. 3.73 posi drive.
power windows and power locks, the lock dont work nor do the speedometer. im thinking easy fix.

the issue is that its hard to get it in to the gears mostly from 2 to 3rd gear. it doesnt grind while getting it in gear. so im thinking the syncro gear is good.

so there is the question.
what could be the problem?

also i would like to know if this looks like a good buy for $2,200 usd?

here are a couple of pic.

thanks for any help you can provide in advance.

Hello and Welcome
I don't think you should buy it.
Cracked window.
Damaged door.
Bad speedo.
Probably bad clutch.
Needs paint.
Who knows what else.
Price is too much..IMO s/b @$700.
Don't buy some one else's problems.
There are plenty of better cars out there for $2000, watch and wait.
Good luck.

i have looked up and down on autotrader and ebay. and the cars that compare to this one. are running for more then 2.

you mentioned bad clutch. i drove it and its pretty tight, by that i mean it pull with out sliping.

are you saying it has a bad clutch because. of the going in to gear issue?

PATIENCE> Look around more.
Here is an example (special 7up edition, cool car my buddy has one ):http://www.mustangforums.com/m_2054299/tm.htm
Just needs a vert top and paint. Engine is original.
Keep looking for one that has less goofy stuff (like engine swaps) done to it. It will save you a lot of time in the long run.

Could be...No matter what it is you'll have to pull it apart to find out. More trouble.

i see what youre saying . but the seller on that particular link you provided. is in cali im in killeen, tx. shipping alone would raise the cost to over 3k.

im looking for local mustang or no more then 600miles there and back.

every mustang that i have found, ither has some sort of issues or the seller is asking way too much.

Do you have to buy right away?
Good things come to those who wait. (If you have time)
Years ago I wanted to buy an Oldsmobile with a 455 cu. in. engine. I looked all around my area for months.
One ad finally showed up in the local paper. All it said was: 1976 olds 32,000 mi. $3,500. I called anyway.
I got it for $2,500, had put a few hundred into it and drove it for 13 years.
If you have the time, you will find a decent car.

I hope you have the time. I hope you find a decent car.
More Good Luck to You

i realy dont have to get it right away. it just that i have been looking for a couple of month to find one, and every time i find one, i do a complete inspection of the car and test drive it. then think about it for a couple days or weeks. and it has happened twice, where i have found a good one, well just a little bit better then the one im looking at right now. and then once i have made my mind made up to get it and called the guy. bam! it has been sold to some one ealse. i just happened to run into this one like two weeks ago. and have been thinking on getting it, i got the guy to lower the price down from 3k to 2.2k and his going to fix the tranny issue. and hes going to include a higher lift cam and a flex fan too.

this time i just decided to ask on a forum to see what people though about this mustang. before i get it. you know.
but yeah i have been paciently waiting and looking around. and this is the best i can get for that price. in a 300mi radius from where i live.

but yeah im willing to wait some more. to find a decent car. i just kind of like this one. the power this one has is gretter then the normal 5.0L mustang. the tranny is the only thing that worries me and have found out that i can get a good used one for a good $700 buck if this one cant be fixed, but the only thing about it is that it doesnt want to get into 3rd without shoving it in to gear. you know it will go in to all the gears, the only time when it kind of doesnt want to go in to gear. is during hard acceleration "racing", but other then that it runs and shifts fine. the body its a little bit up and so is the wind shield. but most of them panels can be had for cheap or i can buy a body kit for it which will replace that panels. or i can upgrade them to CA or FG. or fix them and paint them my self. so thats not realy my worry,

i just realy want to know, if the tranny issue is a common thing among T5 tranny's and if it would be as simple to fix as, adjusting the clutch cable, changing the throw out bearing and fork.

im really looking for some tech help. since we have established, that by the looks of the car. its not worth 2.2k. lol

well hope to find some help.

also this car doesnt have the MAF sensor, and the owner doesnt know what engine year this is. so i was wonderig if from the pictures i included, if there is a way to tell what year this engine is and if its needed to even have the MAF and if its suposed to have it.

thanks

i would definitely wait and atleast try and find an original 5.0 car. the speedo doesnt work so who really knows what other shortcuts might have been take to do the swap. the one good thing about mustangs are there are sooo many out there. try and find a local mustang club in your area and start hanging out there. they always seem to know alot of whats forsale or not listed as far as mustangs go

hi conv_stang, thanks for your reply. i did wait. and the out come of the wait is that i didnt find a mustang and the guy ended up selling the mustang to some one ealse for more then he was going to sell it to me for. lol

so theres my loss on the mustang. but i still found me a car that is fun to drive saves gas, is kind of quick, and in almost mint conditions for $2000.

please dont flame me. its a honda prelude 5 speed manual with 118Kmiles all power inside and sun ruf. the interior would of been 10/10 but the driver seat has 1 sig burn. everything else is perfect it even came with like new polk audio momo coax speakers all around. and there is nothing that needs fixing. it need some upgrading and some regular maintenance. but thats about it.

ill be getting the mustang when i come by a real good deal, i use to have a 2002 mustang that i had a bad accident in. and it got totaled. and since then i had been staying away from mustang. but i got that itch back to were i want a mustang. now that i have the lude, ill be waiting for the right mustang to come my way. so ill be waiting and searching for the right mustang..

thanks for all your help guys. ill come around in quiet mode, lol and keep my eyes on the for sale on the forum, maybe ill find the right mustang there.

Take your money and buy a new mustang (at least you will have the down payment).

nothing wrong with a honda. especially when you get to the gas pumps. you'll find a better mustang. just keep sabing your extra money and you'll be able to get one in better shape and will be much more enjoyable than trying to trouble shoot annoying problems.
