Fuel Gauge Problem

Hello,

New to this site. I have an 88 Saleen with 52 000 miles on it. Having an issue with the fuel gauge. I have read several threads but haven't seemed to find anyone with the same issue as I'm having. When I got this car it had been sitting in a barn for 5 years. Gauge worked ok at that time. I brought it out of storage this year and gauge was pegged at full. Removed the tank and tested the gauge and it worked. Reassembled, drove to the gas station and it pegged back to full. Didn't start working again till about 1/4 tank was left. Waited till almost empty, put 6 litres in and pegged back to full. Now I have tank down and it's saying 1/8 of a tank.

And help would be appreciated.

Possible bad gauge or gas floater? I would replace the gauge or maybe the wiring to the gauge. Good luck.

A car sitting that long...who knows how it was prepared for storage. Was the tank drained? Or was it filled to the brim with fuel stabilizer added? Neither? Fox Mustangs with gas tank/fuel pump (in the gas tank) issues are common. Most of the major parts houses (Latemodelrestoration.com) have basically all the parts to rebuild everything gas tank related. Not terribly expensive either. Not really anwering your question but if the car wasn't stored properly I would expect to have some fuel related problems.
