FOX BODY JACK POINTS

I am new to Mustangs, I was wondering the proper jack locations for fox bodies in particular. Is the K member okay to jack the car up and then use jack stands for under the suspension arms. Thank you for any help!

For what it's worth on my end... I would not use jack/jack stands on any point of the car except the following: Pinch weld notches. Located on the pinch weld sticking down near the sides of the car, there are front and rear notches just behind/in front of the front/rear wheels. You can also use the entire pinch weld if needed to jack the car up before resting the car on jack stands. Do not do this with the doors open. This method will let the suspension hang down.

A picture of that. You can see where the lift pads are on this car, the same is true on yours.

If you need the suspension 'up'/like it's on the ground, then for the rear you can jack the axle up (taking care to not bend the housing cover!) and put jack stands under each side near the shocks. Just in front of the cover should be enough purchase for a floor jack to safely lift.

For the front, however, I don't recommend anywhere. Yes, you can jack the center of the K-member, but there's no real good purchase to stick a jack stand on the lower control arm and be safe, IMO, both for the car, and more importantly anyone working under it. In that case I recommend wheel ramps, and that'd work for all four corners.

If for some reason you need the suspension 'up' with the wheels off? You'll want the car on jack stands on the corners and then you can raise the suspension as needed with a floor jack. Safest method. And even then, you're stressing the floor jack with sprung suspension. Be careful, be SURE... and be safe.

Again, for my thoughts on it, whatever those are worth. Hope that helps, I'm sure i'll be critiqued in a minute.

Thank you for your help Houtex! I appreciate the detail you went into. I mainly jack it up for oil and so I don't get flat spots over winter. I feel a lot safer getting under my car now, and don't feel like I'm going to damage the car! Take care!
