WHILE WE ARE ON TOPIC, lol, what do you guys think about a 392 or 408 stroker?? Seems to me it would be bored to the max(cylinder walls would be next to nill) and longevity would suffer tremendously.

whatever paul, we all know that engine stroking is when you have the engine on the stand, and you gentely caress it each night before you leave the shop.

Wouldn't that be "gently stroke it each night before you leave the shop."

Much like that supercharger you had wrapped in bedsheets

But there are so many engines here at the shop that we get to stroke a different one each night before leaving

No problems with those....matter of fact I am going to build a 427 for my '67 and I plan to drive the wheels off it

Paul why didnt you kick my tail when I had the chance to trade my car for this one cause the owner was scared of its power :bang:

306 or 331 or a 351W become a 408W

For the official record a 306 IS NOT a stroker....it is merely a .030 over 302.

Scothew, I will kick you the next time I see you
I know, I know, a 306 is a 302 bored 30 thousandths over, I forget bore and stroke are different sometimes
I wasn't just picking on you .....I hear this all the time where people refer to a 306 like its a stroker....you just happened to fall into the line of fire with that correction
[/b]

Understood, I mix things up sometimes.

what exactally is the difference between boring and stroking than because I always thought that a 306 was a stroker motor... could someone help me out... Thanks.
boring is using a machine to cut the cylinder walls larger to fit bigger pistons....this is done to clean up a block during a rebuild for different reasons but mostly because of wear on the cylinder walls.

Stroking is increasing the length of the connecting rod...this requires clearancing of the block...when a rod rotates on the crank shaft is is considered the "stroke" so by increasing the length of the connecting rod you are increasing the "stroke" of the engine...hence the term "Stroking" or "stroker". Most of the stroker kits do require you to bore the cylinders.
I never ever remember the stroking thing......... But i do remember how to bore

I don't think so ...

But, first let me ask ya this .. how can ya miss something ya it when you hardly ever used it to begin with.

If you really want it back ... I might be convinced to give it to you for the right price .. :P

You were  for selling it in the first place.

Hey SVOPaul... I am looking to get a 351W and stroke it very soon (within the next 3 months). What do you think would be the best size. I want the thing to be a beast but maintain reliability. Im not worried about gas or anything in that nature because its only going to be a weekend warrior. I just need something that I can tear the streets up on friday, saturday, and sunday night every weekend without it breaking ? Anyone is welcomed to respond. Dont want to disclude anybody ^_^

Have you looked at the cost involved? reason I say that is that it is not exactly cheap to build one properly....

But assuming you did it is really up to you....What do you want from the car? you can make more than enough power from a 408.....I've seen what ended up as a 420 cube 351 base in a GT run NA 10's....but you have to consider a lot of other things like trans and rear end as the stock ones will not last

my 393 is dead bolts reliable, it's owner built, owner abused. what i would say too you is get as much cylinder head as you can afford on top of it. 302 based heads are a choke on a 351 stroker.

Well I was going to get a 351W from a Bronco and strip it down and work on it. But I figured that by the time that I get the motor, strip the whole thing, take it to a machine shop to have them take a look at it, bore it, blueprint it, stroke it, and do all the mandatory work that a block w/ 150,000 (est.) would need to be made into a high powered street rod I could just buy a new 408 shortblock. The only thing that stinks is that I now cant afford all of it at one time so I am in the process of looking into making payments to dssracing for a 408 pro bullet short block.

Another thing that stinks is that they wont send me the motor until is it is completly paid off. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should build this motor or if there is another company anyone would recommend? I am looking to keep it NA and keep it streetable. Not street legal but streetable

WHo needs emissions anyways? just put the catted H-pipe back on for inspection, now like anyone in my family would do that.......
i recommend DSS, just dont get a street base motor and run it up to high HP or it will not last, some say DSS is junk, well u cant use a street based 306 for a 7 second TT drag car

Ive heard that dss makes good motors but i just also heard that they take like 6-7 months to get it out to you. Have you ever read 331 ways to waste an LS1 in MMFF. Seems pretty good to me. If I do go threw with it I plan on getting a pro bullet 408 witch is claimed to be good for 700hp. I dont know but I guess that Im gonna find out.
