Thumbs up

What would be the best year to buy......The year with the most options and least problems?

Also a little poll:

Coupe or Hatchback?

Thanks
Lee

I would go with the hatchback. ..Had a 1988 5.0 and loved the car . Wish I still had it. :bang:

coupe!!!!!!!! but im a little biased. if you want the single headlight design, i would go with an 89-93. b/c they had mass air. and that make it easier to do mods to the engine. if you like the four eyed foxes id go with an 86 just b/c you get fuel injection. and welcome!

I would go with an 89 coupe lx. Lighter, faster than the GT's and they had mass air rather than speed density (easier to start modding) and no air bags. If you found a black one that would be wicked!

Here's my 2 cents worth. The 1987 5.0 had heads and pistons that are unique for that year only, you can not upgrade to after market heads without worring about piston interference. 1988 was the last year for speed density which only alows mild upgrades. 1989 was the last year ford put forged pistons in the 5.0 block. In 1990 they put in air bags and hyperutectic pistons, which don't really like supercharging to much. In 1990 ford put in better bushings in the rear control arms and larger inner fenderwells in the front.
For my money I would say the best fox next to the 93 cobra is the 1989 car, Forged pistons, massair and no airbags. having an air bag fox means no tilt steering.

Thanks

I got to throw in my vote for a 1993 coupe. I have owned 3 1993 coupes,96 mystic cobra, 2000GT and a 2004 GT You cant go wrong with anyone hatch or coupe. Here where I live a coupe of any year will sell 2x as fast as a GT, Cobra or hatch and in my opinion more money. Cobra's are sweet but pricy. Just look at all the car trader magazines and what is availble the most and what they sell for. There is no bad choice as long as you get one and keep it. IMOP

93 cobra is one of the best looking foxes, but has hyperplastic POS pistons.

89-92

I believe 88 was still speed density (although maf may have started in 88, im not positive), which is less mod freindly than a maf setup.

86 and 87 If I am not mistaken had the crappy asthmatic heads

89 - 92 I know for a fact were maf, with e7 heads, and forged pistons

As far as body style, unless going for the quickest car possible, get what suits your taste best, but the coupes are the lightest models, with lx's being second lightest. Power to weight ratio makes a big difference when it comes to racing, but unless you are hardcore into racing, a few tenths wont matter that much.

They started MAF in 1989. The 88's still were speed density. You dont ever want to deal with a speed density car... Trust me!
