What are you willing to spend on a block? That's the question here. You can probably pick up a roller cam 302 from a rebuilder warehouse for fairly cheap.

Not sure what you are asking ? They are all equal for max HP rating so one isn't more stout than the other ( meaning truck vs car). All '88 and later 5.0. truck motors are roller cam blocks but fitted with flat tappet cam thru '91. '85 was the 1st year for the roller block and in '86 they came with thicker decks/cylinder wall and siamesed water jackets. The explorers use the same basic block nothing special. All '86 and later ford 5.0. car motors use the roller block even though some wil have a non roller cam in them.

If you are looking to build a motor with HP levels over 500-520hp then the tsock block is on borrowed time ( even the mexican block). Then you would need to look at the Ford racing Boss block, world or dart.

I would go with what Al stated and check out a good reman block, they go for pretty cheap. The used block no doubt is going to need shop work or atleast should os the cost would be near the smae has the reman.
