I have been working off and on when time permits and fired it up today. New timing chain, plugs, wires...swapped intake and timing cover to Fox style. Just have a few odds and ends exhaust wise to finish up and it's ready to go. I removed the wing(I'd rather look at holes in the decklid than the wing).

I will weld up the holes and use the decklid I have. I also located where they welded up the holes for the antennas from it's Police days...I will find the right antennas and redrill the holes and mount the antennas back in the original location.

What's interesting is that this car came from Ford already two-tone painted for service as a police car...there are 2 different paint codes on the data tag on the door. I had always thought they were painted after production...this shows otherwise.

I have my sources for the Antennas

It's running now but I am waiting for the Prochamber to get here...then I will install stock Ford mufflers on it. I'm not a Concours guy so although the outside will have a stock appearance, it will have some improvements for power and handling.

Today we started with getting a stock hood ready and it snowballed a little so here is where it stands now....roof sanded....it did originally have a light bar on it....going to paint the hood, trunk and roof back the original colors and I'll finish the rest of the body and paint at a later date....this at least looks better than the peeling clearcoat that was on the roof.

Ugly? Did you bump your head? The "pony wheel" is a classic...looks good on any Fox for a stock wheel!

But yes, they are going and the original black painted 10 holes with silver center caps.

The front bumper suffers from poor workmanship....as in, whoever painted this car before had no idea what they were doing and have no business picking up a paint gun!

We are priming the roof, hood and decklid tonight...paint coming to those panels next....then I'll prep a set of wheels and paint them and get some new tires on order.

I like the fact you are restoring it back to the police car colours...but the saleen wing is also a classic....why you diss the wing on a stang coupe baffles me they liook wicked and they work. At least the saleen wing looks better than those "wale tails" or those spoilers that look like a park benck made outta scrap yard metal.

the whale tail is a repro saleen wing, everyone i know hates them, because people buy a notch for the clean strait lines and they dont wanna wing, in their opinion it ruins it, i just think it looks horrible. i do like the sheet metal drag racing wings though, they are cool.

This was a genuine Saleen wing but in my opinion it has no business being on a coupe....simply because it does not fit the lines of the car. I have had the Saleen wings on other cars and I think they look fine on a hatch or vert along with the proper ground effects but on a Coupe I just can't stand it.

Aside from that keep in mind that I am putting the exterior of this car back to Police spec the way it was and no police Mustang EVER had a Saleen wing on it . There will be NO spoiler at all on the back of this car

They were not steel...the police cars used the 10 hole aluminum wheels just painted black.

The paint on the car was old...on top of that it had poor prep work which means it doesn't stick well.....therefore bugs and stones hitting this front bumper caused it to easily chip and flake.

We always wet sand and buff.....actually we wet sand and block a car in primer prior to putting the actual paint on it. The quality of a paint job is all in the preperation BEFORE you paint.

yes, the more primer u put on the better the paint, it is like building a beautiful house on a swamp with no foundation if u do a poor prep job. i know some police cars had black 10 holes with different centers, but i hear people talk about old steel police wheels from maybe different models?

It's not the "amount" of primer....it is just using a 2 part primer as it helps you get the body straight prior to paint.

The 86 & older police Mustangs I beleive had a steel wheel...I've got pics on a disc somewhere around here that I took at the 40th anniversary show in Nashville....
