89 GT color question

I have a 89 GT that I'm restoring it has been painted white by the original owner. The original color was 1C 76 I know the 1c is black but I was told that it was a two tone car . How would I know if it was a two tone car and what the other color might have been.

I believe the only factory two tone schemes were whatever color the top part of the car was and the bottom was always gray. Although I don't think I've ever seen a gray bottom on a black car. Maybe I'm just sheltered though.

You certain that '76' isn't a '73' ? I think the only color available was Titanium (73). Go here (first link)and log your VIN and Door Panel info in. Should give you the info you want. Also, go to the message board there and ask questions on your rebuild (2nd link). They know alot about the fox GT's. The 1982-1993 Mustang GT Registry home page is the third link.

By the way, I picked up two foxes this week. A 1990 LX vert with less than 53,000 original miles and a black '89 GT from the original owner.

Thanks for the help and the links. The 76 was definitely a 76 but the funny thing is the molding on the door tag was listed as titanium. I cannot for the life of me can figure out why somebody would paint a black car white. Something else seems strange the plastic trim around the interior rear side windows appears to have been painted black over top of the red but remains red below the window.
