First question what are the two small hoses that connect to the top of the airbox one runs towards the back of the engine bay and the other one connects again at the bottom of the airbox to this

What would happen if I attached a air filter strait to this


Would the car still run right or would I be missing some vital piece needed for it to function properly

 

I just ran a straight pipe to the throttle body with a filter on mine. There were a few companies making kits several years back. I don't know if they still do or not. Don't remember what the hoses are for, but I just took them off.

Putting a filter on the end of the big muffler shaped thing would be pointless as that's the air silencer. If you look inside, its very constricting.
