Depends on your budget. A good start point could be the exhaust- headers, h-pipe, cat-backs. Also does this particular 88 have mass air (only if originally a CA car, if not, then 'no').

You might want to get a Mass Air conversion. Not to say you can't make pretty good power with speed density, but in the long run you may be happy you switched.

You have to decide if what you purchase will be the end product for that particular modification. Example you could get some used GT40 heads, Cobra or GT40 intake, B-cam, etc., but if you plan to rebuild/stroke the engine you may want twisted wedge heads or different intake, etc.

Is your car a 5-speed? If so 3.55s would wake her up, if an auto I'd go 3.73s.

And welcome to the site . . . . and post some pictures!!

Wow- I wish I had that much to put into mine! If you do plan on taking advantage of major upgrades, then as Evil Capri said, you should look into mass air conversion.

a heads/cam/intake package will really wake the car up but I also recommend the mass air conversion especially if you swap cams. You'd probably need to upgrade your fuel system if you do that so that might be a little over your budget

It might also help if we knew what your goals were exactly- were you planning on making this a daily driver with more pep? A weekend 'fun car'- maybe an occasional drag night car? Or a project car of some sort?

mass-air conversion 1st - as the foundation for future power mods. unless you want to go straight to aftermarket engine management system.

you should be fine with clearance issues. but its always good to check it first. and the mass air conversion will definitely be a big improvement. i had an 86 and when i changed the engine i had to swap to mass air. it ran horrible

I think you would want 24lbs expessially with 150 shot.

heres my old engine, which had a 150 shot as well.

If its a true stock GT than pull out the Air Silencer. Just open the air intake box and unbolt the air silencer. Increases your HP and Gas mpg. Also get rid of the smog pump, either via shorter belt or Smog pump eliminator pulley. Long Tube header and O/H H or X pipe and "Cattless" back exhaust.

Mass air is the only way to go if you're going to be doing all those mods.
