1979 5.0 question
Alright I'm lookin' to buy a '79 Mustang "Indy Pace Car" (http://tampa.craigslist.org/hdo/cto/914353997.html)
My question is, what's the difference between a '79 5.0 engine and say an '87? I see there's about an 80 hp difference. Is it just a Head, Cam and Intake or is there more? Another question just involving that ad, what is a 411 Rack and Pinion?
Thanks in advance for any answers

First. That is NOT an indy pace car!!
Second: It has been Raced, and Raced, and Raced. 4:11 Gears w/ Mickey Thompson's should let you see that up front.
Third: Interior looks to have been "gutted" at one time. and the Paint, is well, eh, well.........
and Fourth:
That car is in my town!! The $1500, is very negotable, especially when you see it, up close and personal.

the power difference between 79 and 87 comes mostly from the Fuel Injected setup vs the carb. I'm also pretty sure that the heads and exhaust were improved along the way as well.
also, like Ol'Dave said it does not look to be a pace car at all. wrong hood, can't tell if its got the right valence or not
BUT that beins said, it does look like a good $1500 fox to me

Didn't think so, the use of words in the title made me wonder.

So that's what 4.11 rack and pinion means, Thanks!

Interior, I don't really mind, if the AC is still there I'll be happy, paint is alright

I plan to do that. I'm just waiting on a call from the insurance agent to see the rates on it to see whether or not I'll actually go look. How much would the gas mileage go down with the 4.11s?

I hope I do too. My dads following up on the insurance quote. Only thing stopping me if that checks out is how it drives and how much I can haggle, seeing as I'm about 300 bucks short

The 4 speed trans is going to be an SROD, which is a bit like a toploader like in the first gens, but the gears are different and it has overdrive (hmm, maybe you will get decent mpg after all lol). I can't give you specific details on this, but I can't recall hearing anything particularly good about em. that being said, i cant remember if they have any problems either. should be fine til it dies of old age. when that happens, get a T5.
Maybe someone with more fox experience than me can enlighten us on this. if not, PM Svopaul, he knows everything

Is someone messing my thread? I made a post last night at 9:38 regarding the post that Arin made just before then. I ask because my latest post is in the middle of the thread when it really should be the most recent. And it says the post I replied to was made at 4:41 AM today, which it was not.

i moderate in the offtopic, SN, first/second gen, and art sections. basically anything from moving threads, editing titles, to deleteing things and giving people infractions/temp bans for misbehaving.
plus theres all the secret cult stuff that being a moderator entails, but thats all pretty run of the mill stuff. sacrificing sheep and so on..
