Will 6 cylinder C4 trans work with a 289?

I have a 6 cylinder 65. I have heard that a c4 trans from a six cylinder will work with a 289. Is this true? Other then needing to get a new bell housing? The 289 I am looking at is a 4 barrel out of a 65 mustang.

I've read you gotta swap flexplates and torque converters as well as the bell housing, but otherwise, it should work. You should google it up though:

There was a couple of other words about someone burnin' up the I6 C4, but I dunno why that would have happened, honestly. Maybe different ratios or bands or shift points or...

Ok thanks for the info. Would love not to have to get a new trans if I end up doing the conversion
