What in the name of Ford is this?

This wire comes out of a harness right above the brake reservoir on a 1968 Ford Mustang . It looks pretty useless to me....BUT, what is it?

Is it important???? Please help!!

Looks like a mercury switch for an under hood light. Does it have a light?

I finally figured it out. It is a mercury switch for an aftermarket alarm system. I had to climb under the dash and do some research to find the alarm system.

Thanks for the responses.
