The problem with that car is not in the question of weather or not it could be fast, or how good of a kit it is. Those things on their own merrit, the car is eh.... Nice, I suppose.
The problem here is something MUCH deeper. Everyone these days is pretending to be something they aren't. No matter how much you change that car and make it look like a classic Mustang, it will always be a Miata.
Instead of going to this length, why not just purchase a classic and be TRUE. Be ORIGINAL. They don't make classic mustangs anymore (DUH). If Ford said tomorrow that they were building the exact 1964.5 Mustang down to every last nut and bolt, guess what. It still wouldn't be a classic mustang. The old ones would STILL be Original and True.
The fact that someone has to pretend by making their car something it isn't is just obsurd. A FIERO isn't a FERRARI. A MIATA isn't a MUSTANG. If you want to throw a 5.0 in a Miata body, do it. If you need to change the way the car looks, then make it something custom that isn't made elsewhere. Just be custom. THAT I can respect.
Moral of the story. Don't PRETEND you are something you AREN'T

that's just it, it's not pretending to be anything other than a miata with a body kit. it's more like it is trying NOT to look like something it is. no one will probabaly ever mistake one of these for a real mustang if they do they probably wouldn't know what a real mustang is or even a real miata if it was right in front of them. i have a real stang and nothing could ever replace it, probably not even another mustang. but i still think one of these little things would be fun. if was just a regular miata i wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole
it could run 9s and its still fugly. Id get a regular 5.0-powered Miata over that any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I remember seeing pictures of this car on an anti-rice type website. Vintage and I BOTH have 66 mustangs that we have been restoring for about 4-5 years. Since we do all of our own work, we are super intimate with the cars.
When we saw the picture, we didn't immediately read the caption. We stared at it. The paint job on the car is different from stock, and while it looked like a mustang, something just didn't fit. It took us a good long look to realized that the roofline was way different and it had miata door handles.
I'm sorry, but that car is nothing more or less than pretending. Why else would they be ripping off a classic mustang's styling? They aren't using a custom design. They're making the car look as much like a 64 1/2 - 66 mustang as you can possibly make it look!
You are taking a car that IS a Miata, and you are making it into something it isn't - a Classic 1st gen Mustang. The hope by all of this is that peope THINK you are driving something other than a Miata, and more importantly, they think you are driving a classic Mustang.
Even if you are an avid fan, the car MIGHT slip past you on the highway and you would be fooled. It's not QUITE right, but the hope is that most folks who don't know cars won't even catch it, and I have to admit that they probably wouldn't!
I can't see it as anything other than trying to make a factory produced car look like it's a completely different factory produced car (which is playing copy-cat). If you want a classic mustang, just buy one. Don't waste the money making a Miata LOOK Like a classic mustang and trying to fool people. They only fool is the one who does it.

You said: "...What does it matter in the end though? Like you said... a mustang is a mustang. We all want a cool looking fun to drive car. What itteration we choose is up to us. Everyone just needs to know their place and be happy with that.
If you buy a V6, then enjoy it. If you want to hop the fool out of it... that's your business. Just don't disrespect others for their choices. As far as the small few of the GT owners (VERY SMALL, mind you) who would opt to trash on V6's... I only say... know your roots. 6's are the bread and butter. It's a car and a choice just like yours. Respect the person's choice and good taste, don't trash their lack of V8 performance.
..... what you do is your business. I love mustangs period. I love talking to people about them, and I never harsh on them for anything... even if I'm talking to a V6 owner that has RICED their car. It's their parogative. I may not hold a lot of respect for the person OR the car, but I never show it. They love what they do, and as long as it makes them happy, that's fine.
I love what I do, and I don't need anyones respect, apprecaition, or acknowledgment in order to make me happy. I just do it for me. The rest is icing on the cake."
stangerx, i think it would be a cool FUN little driver, it really doesn't look anything like a mustang when you see them side by side, it is smaller in all respects, shorter length and height wise and it's narrower too. like i said i don't see the car as pretending to be something it isn't, but rather pretending NOT to be something it is and the designer chose to model the kit after a classic stang something he obviously admired and respected, like they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. would you the same about about GT350 clones car? his car is made to look like a shelby mustang, which it isn't. my car for instance will end up looking like either a 69 california special or a 69 shelby coupe if ford had made either of those, what i am doing is generally refered to as a "Phantom" which is to make a car look like something the factory would have or should have done but didn't. your classic stang is no different, you took a six cylinder stang and converted it to a v8 stang, pretty much the same thing as the entire concept behind the miatastang don't you think?
In deed, that is what I said, however, it is being taken DRASTICALLY out of context. That is in reference to the 2005 mustangs and the V6 vs V8 bashing that is taking place. It is entirely a different subject matter all together, and unfair to quote me out of context.
My topic of conversation was in relation to 2 factory cars that are unmodified. I was talking about a FACTORY built V6 mustang and a FACTORY built V8 Mustang. GT owners do not have any place to trash talk the V6 owners based solely on engine configuration. Those are 2 original factory built cars, not 2 custom vehicles. What's more, this car is masking itself as a completely DIFERENT car that WAS factory. It's not even a Mustang to start with! The 2 topics are entirely unrelated and incomparable.
In the end, what this person does to their car is their business, but as I said in the quoted post, I don't have to respect it. Are my feelings on this going to STOP it from happening? No. However, I do not HAVE to respect the person OR the car. Further more, I would respect a RICER before I would offer respect for this car, because at least ricers are original.
I agree with htwag. These cars will be with us... like em or leave em. My feelings on it are entirely my own, and it's an op-ed topic. If you want to like the car, it's up to you.
Lastly, What I have done to my car, what 350 has done to his, and what you plan to do to yours bnickel are ALSO entirely different from this car. If I have to explain that to you, it will never make sense, but to compare a miata with a body kit to 3 classic Mustangs is embarassing and insulting to the classics and the hobby.
Everyone has a different line drawn in the sand. What is ok to some is not ok to others. If you want to like the car, it's entirely up to you. These are just my thoughts, like em or hate em. Your opinion is your decision.

"I want to be original, just like everyone else".
Wow, I wonder how the Cobra's came to be???
Some crazy guy got the idea of putting a Ford V8 in a BRITISH sportscar of all things! Oh, the humanity!
The miatastang is completely an original idea. I never would have thought of doing it, would you? Anybody who can't tell that it's not a "real" Mustang at first glance must be very new to the hobby. Sure, you may not recognize Mazda DNA without some looking, but you surely can't easily mistake one for a 65 Mustang either. Yes, it emulates one, but so does an 05 Mustang. Should they not make 05's either?
I guess the 1000's of them I see running around makes them just another "copycat" car too? Cobra kit's should be outlawed too then? If it weren't for kits, how many of us would "see" a "real" Cobra, how often?
I fail to see how this car "hurts" or affects any part of the Mustang hobby. It doesn't take any vintage car off the road. It doesn't steal parts from those who need them - in fact additional volume will only make them cheaper.
99.9% of this hobby is about "pretending" - whether people are pretending their "Secretary's car" is a racer, their 6-cyl car is a V8 car, their brown car is a red car, or that their full restored concours car is REALLY just like it was in 1965.
At least it's not another red C-code coupe being pushed on & off a trailer. It's being driven and seen by other (potential) hobbyists. There's plenty of room in the car hobby for everyone - whether you like Vanilla, Chocolate, or Tuti-Fruity (Miata-appropriate
)...
OH, BTW - I gave the link to that whole thread on purpose - so no one had to take those comments "out of context". If I wanted to state things out of context, I would have included only the following: :nono:

I never said it hurts any hobby, or doesn't look 'real.' It's just fugly....remember, "beauty is skin deep, but fugly goes straight to the bone."

Geez, all I did was ask if anyone else saw what i saw in the MM pic, we got tons of replies and arguments, but not one single response to my post. Simply amazing.
All I have to say is either you are or are not what you appear to be, their is no gray area really, cool factor or likeabitlity has nothing to do with that. If your VIN is a T but you have an 8, than you are being just as fake as anything. I guess technically by this argument any deviation from the VIN is actually being what you ain't, wether it's as small as paint codes. A Clone by definition should be equal to or better than it's target, not all copies are clones in my book, the term is used to loosely these days I think. Just paint and fiberglass does not make you a clone at all, that is more of an homage really. Hey, if they made a convertible Mach 1 I'd have one, but they don't so I copied the scheme but my car doesn't say "Mach" on it anywhere. If someone isn't educated enough to know that and thinks my car is a Mach though, is that wrong? Is that my fault? Does that mean my car has no place in Mustang (or any) society?
What about those new 67 shells Dynacorn is going to do? Will they not be a Stang just because someone didn't do years of rust repair instead? What about all the funny cars over the years or that fiberglass 70' Body they recently came out with? Everything under the shell will be something lese, maybe not even Ford so should they be shun from Society just because someone thought a stretched 70' body would look cool as heck?
All personal feelings aside I say that considering someone could have come up with yet another Mercedes, Lamborghini, Ferrari body to throw on Miata's instead of Fiero's and the fact that they dug back instead as deep as a 40 year old car to pay homage to, not a Chevy either mind you, but our beloved Ford model simply proves where our place is, at the top of the mountain. like it or not, it is anything but an insult.
Now then, has anyone looked at the MM pic and thinks that's a Miatastang at the Pony trail??????

Too much
going on. I'm signing off on this one as to avoid stirring the pot even more. My fleeting thoughts are that the sidecar topic is an op-ed piece. Opinions will vary, and most folks will not see eye to eye with opinion differences. Let's agree to disagree on this one (if we even really disagreed to start with).
