Yeah - the tail lights. Sorry... My subject may have been a bit confusing! Here on "Planet Danny," I assume everyone is familiar with my car! I've had this fastback for close to 10 years and been a purist for much of that time. It's only recently I've decided to make a few modifications, and I need the whole word to approve of them or I'll cry.

You're doing this ALL wrong. We need 5 seperate posts to describe the decision process, ordering the parts, the UPS truck arriving, holding the parts up for effect, and then someone else actually installing them...

Then maybe 8 more posts describing in excrutiating detail the minor problems after installation...

Pull the &*%^ filler neck already!

But, enough of that! Good modification Dan! Details? Where'd you get parts? Which parts did you use? Costs?

Now to remove the LAMP nature of this thread, how about a quick how you did it summary ... keep it educational too.

Pull the filler neck? Are you nuts? That could quite possibly solve eveything right away! Let's take a few days to examine what ELSE it could be before we jump right in and fix it. Let's begin with the chemical compostion of gasoline itself and what corosive properties it may or may not contain. From there, we can move onto whether the LeMans stripes painted on the inside of the filler neck may be a contributing factor...

The parts consist of 1965 Thunderbird tail light buckets and reproduction lenses and frames. And I'm using a sequential setup from Mustang Project.

I've never been a fan of those lights on a 65/66 but it's your car and I can't help but love the thing.

They look good Danny, How'd you attach the bezels and lenses and seal against the body?

I have all the chit to do the same to my 'vert, but I have an off-the wall idea I'm thinking of trying before I cut the tail lamp panel... well actually two... One's using '67-8 Firebird taillights and the other is going to take some serious fabrication first.

The lens to body gasket is readily available. Four screws attach the lens to the bucket, and four more screws attach the frames over the lens (again, to the housings). And I painted the edges of the lenses black to blend into the black edges of the frames. I'd eventually like to fab up some sort of "lip" similar to the fiberglass panels used on '68 Shelbys to make everything look more integrated. Another day, another project!

Love it!

Dan the new lights look great. It's fun to finally give in and go with mods.
