Well during the AOD upgrade I also put in a tranny temp gauge. I'm wondering what is a safe or normal temp for the transmission to operate at. I've got that high stall converter and I'm seeing the temps run up with traffic, hotter than I expected.

I have a cooler, but it's a rather small streetrod unit. Perhaps I will need to step up to something larger with a fan?

Did you continue to use the radiator cooler? I understand the only advantage is the coolant will warm the fluid up in the colder weather, not really an issue if you don't drive it during the winter.

In any case I found these points of information or discussion on trans fluid temps. The general consensus is once the fluid temp exceeds 200 degrees, damage starts to occur. I hope these links help, Jeff

Alright, I'm starting to kiss 200 periodically so I will have to address this. I don't have a provision on the radiator to run it through so that's not an issue. Thanks.

Looks like I will have to step up the cooling, the deeper pan and the small cooler are not cutting it with this setup.

Update: Once the real off season rolls around I plan to up the cooler to one of these bad boys:

A Tru-Cool Max Transmission cooler. I'm debating weather to get the unit with the thermal bypass or not. This is a serious cooler so I may need the bypass to allow the transmission to reach operating temp. The cooler is rated for 40,000 GVW & 45,000 BTU
