Let's hear the ideas here for the Powertrain. This should include the engine, transmission, exhaust, rear end, and any/all parts associated with these systems such as the cooling systems, ignition, clutch, driveshaft and so on.

Blake,
Need a cost estimate, including any machining etc. you would not do as a basic builder in your garage.

Whew, I could probably use some help on that one. Anything I throw down is going to be a ROUGH estimate.

Boring!!! Sorry, but that sounds like an engine for a daily driver.

The engine bay is the meat and potatoes of project. Surely there's something more exciting and different. Maybe the twin turbo setup on a smallblock would turn some heads. If you want to go blown, I like the dualcarb dualblown setup!

Organ Donor may have fit if not for the HIV+ status... WTF is that?

Maverick is making a real clear plan and picture for me... I'd like to keep it all under the hood though, but the big block is actually where I was leaning (though it goes against the sort of "modern" performance idea). What do you have to FI that setup instead of the carbs/ram?

I'm seeing some suggestions here that are based on the wow factor instead of real world usability. Is this a driver or not?

I'd classify it similar to the intended purpose of my current car. It's ready to show at any time with a little cleaning but it's not something you would typically drive more than 2 days a week in the summer.

At the same time you could put this through the Hot Rod Power Tour and do the whole thing comfortably. Have to balance it all. A big block built with a modern FI setup would be streetable to me and at the same time would add the WOW factor that Pro-Touring embodies.

Yeah, but first and foremost among the P-T crowd is turning corners. The big block kind of hobbles that goal.

<-not trying to be argumentative. You're the "Foose" on this one. I'm just sayin'.

the big block over the small will only add about 200 lbs we can shave that off the front end easy enought to off set it pluss we could lower the motor and its mounts to make the center of gravity a lot lower to the ground

What about an ALUMINUM FE??? Yeah, it adds ~$7k to the cost, but it's a bolt-in... Add the Alum E-brock heads and a twin TB EFI setup on a vintage 8V intake.... Now we're down in 351 weight range...

Very do-able. Figure $15k-$18k, but then we retain stock suspension architecture, and you wouldn't run an IRS (at least not for long).
