THRASH ONE: Paint and Body
Alright the shell is back from the the media blaster. It's in a light epoxy primer and this step cost $1500 but it gives us a clean slate and from this we can all see that the following needs to be replaced (other parts are useable with minor body work):
- Driver door needs to be replaced (or lower skin)
- Driver rear floor needs to be replaced
- Driver side quarter needs a lower patch
- Passenger fender and headlight housing
So at the minimum this is the bodywork before any modifications to the body and/or additions of different panels such as glass hoods, tails, etc.
I'll let the group throw out color ideas and body mods as part of the build process here.

This would be a great opportunity for a two tone. I'm thinking a charcoal and metallic burgandy because it is a factory red car (though I'm tempted to go with a dark blue and silver combo). Definately need Shelby side scoops for this car. Got to hide those factory abominations. Shelby duck tail would work nicely too, though that would be the extent of Shelby parts. Body color side mirrors. Shave the emblems, rocker panel molding, reverse lights, antenna, and side reflectors (I dare a Statie to ticket a car that is this cool). I'll be toying with a photochop along these lines in the next few days.
Good doors are made of unobtainium, and no repro fenders fit good, so we fix and patch all the rusty or bent metal, making sure to use POR-15 in all the nooks and crannies as we go. Welds are ground down, filled with an allmetal filler and guidecoat sanded.
I might also suggest headlight buckets smoothed into fenders.

For the tail I'd say take the Sportsroof style and put that instead of going Shelby high with the ducktail.
For the chops you can also take the New Boss pics and just rip the roof off
to get things going....

I see a carbon fiber hood, with the fender tops painted to match.
The rest of the car is a DEEP blood red - I like Jay's Toreador....
Keep the rear treatment simple - the Mach i-esque tail treatment is a good idea.
Recess taillights ala FF fastback.
Relocate front hi-beams further inboard - closer to 05 GT locations.

- mimic THAT look wherever possible with the frontend....
Antenna, side scoops, gas cap, B/U lights all go. Mimic the 05's side bodyline treatment. B/U lights become fiber optic - integrated into center tailight lens. Smooth the taillight panel where the gascap was & create a hinged fuel door.
Shave the door handles and locks too.
Saleen-esque rocker stripes on carbon-fiber patterned vinyl...

Oops, forgot the biggie - chop the windshield / top 3 inches.

Are there any handles we can steal from other cars that might work well? Have seen the PT Cruisers employed on street rods.
We need a hard top boot out of glass.
I'm a fan of using the carbon fiber hood and letting the material act as the black out (clearcoat it, let it shine through).
Like the painted peak on the hood.
Everyone really want to go red on this?

Here's a quickie just to see if I'm on the right track. I like the red accent "point" on the hood.

i also think the top should be done in charcoal gray instead of black for the build car to gow with the burgundy/red and charcoal paint scheme. how about some flip flop ghost flames too, make the flames burgundy/red on the top where the charcoal is and on the bottom do them in charcoal over the burgundy/red but either do them under the base coat or use pearls in the clear coat.
Remove antenna and weld up hole. Shave door handles. Lose the chrome mirrors in favor of aerodynamic bodycolored ones. Smoke all four headlights. Incorporate blinkers into bumper.
I've always like the "real flames" on black, or ghostflames done in a pearl version of the bodycolor. Maybe a slight purple tinted ghostflame on a black backdrop. That would look good with the black vert top.
Find a donor sportsroof, and make an optional clampon hardtop.
I'd leave the windshield alone. No chop. We can't afford to make a new top frame anyway.

i think we should lose the front bumper and do and "R" style valance, or maybe do a split bumper thing like the 70 1/2 z-28's. and for the turn signals we should just do away with them and use the headlight bulbs with the blinker inside, have to some kind of custom grille too, but it would have to work with the factory bezels for the inboard lights. or maybe chop up an original grille to make it work in the lower section.
