Have a 66 coupe with 6 cylinder engine. My heater has never been very good. Warm, not hot. This weekend I finally pulled the heater and replaced the core and rebuilt the box. Before I put it back together I was wondering........my thermostat is a 180 degree one. Should I change to a 195 degree or does it matter?

Allen: A 180* thermostat is just perfect for your car. M.

 

Everything I have read suggests the 200 CI sixes tended to run cool. But I would think twice about changing the thermostat value.

 

Thank you. I'll keep the 180 degree thermostat and see how the heater works when everything is reinstalled this weekend

Work is done. Put a new heater core in with all new seals. I kept the 180 degree thermostat in. Putting out lots of heat and the engine temp is normal.
