Temp. question

Hey guys. I have a question anout average running temp. for the 289-302 block. I have a felling my 302 is running pretty hot, 250 for about 30mins of city driving. Is this too hot? If so what should I do. thanks

kinda warm.....get an electric fan. I dontknow how hot mine runs (stock guages have no numbers) but its never gone past 1/3 of the sweep. I have an electric fan, but I rarely use it...only when I havent been being nice to her...

OEM thermostat was 195 for a '66 289, so I imagine that's close to the temp of the coolant if the gauge needle is centered. I have a 180 thermostat in mine and the gauge needle sets around the 1/4 mark. I run a mild build 289, standard 2-row radiator with a flex fan and rebuilt factory water pump.

I have a 68 Cougar with a 302 in it. I just tonight put a mechanical gauge in it. Going to dirve it to a car show in Rogers, AR. this weekend. Mine too has been running hot. Will know what it is doing this weekend, Ran it just enough tonight to know it is working. Will post again after this weekend. By the way, I have a 70 Mach 1 on the stands doing some frame work. Cancer from the North. But we are surviving this car. By this time next summer, look out rice rockets, and really anything with gas pedal.
