Special Order Color?

Looked at a '65 coupe last night that a friend just bought. Took along my pocket decoder book for reference. It's a Metuchen built A code, April 27,1965, appears to be a GT. It's oddity is the F paint code. My decoder book says it's a '64 1/2 only color, Guardsman Blue, but it looks more like Skylight Blue to me. It has white GT stripes. Also the fog light switch is mounted just to the right of the wiper switch on the bottom of the dash. Anyone seen this. Any info as to production numbers or paint codes is greatly appreciated. Here's more info: white std interior with blue appts, 4 speed, disc brakes, full instrumentation/woodgrain, console and rallye pac(missing). Thanks, kennyg

According to the site i am looking at that means it is an early year 65.
That blue was available for the early year 65s. Which were pretty much a 64 1/2.

If I remember correctly, if a Mustang had a special order paint color in the 60's, then where the color code on the door tag would be is blank.

April 27,1965 is about 8 months too late to be a '64 1/2, yet it has an 'F' paint code.

I've also seen a number, 4-6 digits, representing the number of special order paint cars on the assembly line. Maybe this was a paint code used on another model but not the Mustang. kennyg

Epperstang, Thanks for the link and info. Don't know why this has slipped past me other than assuming that I was seeing '64 1/2's all these years. My friend really doesn't want to paint it this color though, he wants to go with black w/red stripes and standard red interior, unless it could be proven to him that this is some very rare combo of options. Thanks, kennyg

If it has a designation for color then it is not special order.....EVERY special order color car will have a blank place where the letter should be. I have a '68 Sprint here that is like that and have run across quite a few over the years. Other possibilities range from a simple mistake(nobody is perfect...I've seen mis-stampings on VIN's before on inner aprons), to a reproduced door tag with the wrong letter(door tags have been reproduced for a VERY long time now).

The unfortunate thing is that we don't have the benefit of a Marti report on the early cars to verify any of this information....
