All my life as a car collector, like most people, I've bought and restored the 289 automatic and 4 speed Mustangs. I found one the other day that is different. I call it "Plain Jane". It's a 65 white car with red interior and I've having it shipped from California to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. While many of the less expensive early Stangs got crushed, this one survived. I'm going to detail it and show it..............but no drag racing! It's a six with a three speed. Pretty original except for someone changing the radio, which I will change back. Some photos attached.

we'll totally disassemble the engine compartment; take everything out, clean, paint and detail it. This is the area of the car needing the most work.

I can dig it. There's something to be said for the elegant simplicity of a clean plain Jane. Plus, my first car was just such a Mustang and I loved it for exactly what it was, not for what it could've or should've been.

In 1965, this was the least expensive Mustang you could buy. No power options. Just a six and a 3 speed on the floor. I remember the original cost being around $1900.

Does it have 2 speed wipers?

With that passenger side mirror, it may have been equipped with the "visibility group".

However I think this option also included padded visors and maybe a day/night mirror as well. It's probably more likely that the car had the passenger mirror added more recently. Just curious, and could add an option package to your potentially not-so-plain Jane.

Here's the white Mustangs cousin......I've bought the green 65 fastback about 3 years ago. It is a 289 c code with 4 speed; pony interior (installed during restoration), and a rally pack. A little bit of a rare color; the dynasty green was offered in '65 only.

I think the second owner added the mirror. I don't think this car had any options......however, I did not look at the wipers! I don't know if they are single speed or not.....and I'm already back at the beach. The car will be here in a week or two so I'll find out then. I am now the third owner.

WOW! That is a nice car. My dream car and color. 65 Fastback with that color. Your new purchase will look nice next to that thing. Take pics of the two togeather after your new one gets shipped to you.

KungFuDan, thank you. You got yourself a great looking coupe! There's always something super about yellow on a classic Mustang!

Thanks Beach Ford. I love the thing too bad I can't drive it anymore this year. I knew I should have moved from Wi. I did tell the girlfriend that eventually imma get my fastback and she gets the coupe. So I hope to have a pony duo like you someday BTW I seen a fastback like yours at a car show this summer. I thought the owner was gonna have to call event security so he could leave the show hehe.

Is it a T code or a U code? With the lack of rocker trim, it looks like it could be a 64.5.

Nice looking car either way. Congrats.

Air cleaner decal looks like it says "200", which would be a 65.

Nice looking car!

That car captures the orginal Mustang concept completely. Luckily it evolved into something else But that's a fine example of how it all started.
