I just installed a MSD 6AL box on my 85 302 motor (which is in my 68), and the engine runs great, but there is a bunch of pinging at around 1,500 rpms. The timing is at about +11 right now.
What problems will pinging cause, and does anyone have suggestions on a timing advance/retard or some other way to fix this?
thanks

If i were you, i'd try advancing timing to 14 and going with 93 or 94 octane.....that should take care of it....anyway's this is the set up on my 5.0....and it wokrs magic....

Definitely the timing. I always set timing with a vac gauge. Get the highest possible vacuum at idle, works great on my 289. I also use 93 octane and add octane boost. Sometimes with the timing marks the rubber damper will drift on you and the marks won't be accurate, so don't trust what you're reading.
Saw that you are in L'ville too. Are you going to the cruise Saturday night? I'll be there unless it rains. Hate to miss the first one of the year.
