Paint job

I'm using the PPG Omni line of products which are about half the price of the Deltron stuff. When I asked what the differences were I was told "the warranty". That's good except you have to be a certified PPG painter for them to honor that warranty. I've seen a job done with Omni products and it turned out excellent so I have no worries that the paint isn't as good.
I'd rather save that extra $1500 for materials and put it into other areas of the car.

You get what you pay for...Restoration work isn't cheap and it is essential to find a competent shop. Everyday we go over other peoples work and I am always shaking my head at the level of incompetence I see daily. If I get a car in that someone else has done and done poorly and I have to repair their work, the price goes up. It's less work to do the job right the first time than to go over someone elses screw up and fix it.
Even a cheap paint job can look good if the prep work is good....
Skimping on materials can often show in the end result as well.....Stick with PPG, Dupont, Valspar and sikkens.....Stay FAR away from Martin Senior/Sherwin Williams products!!!!
But the bottom line is you get what you pay for....Go to Maaco or similar and you can expect to have to redo it in a year or two if lucky but if your not picky and don't mind sand scratches, overspray, wavy bodywork, etc and just want a shiny finish that looks good from across the street then Maaco is for you

lilboss man- I have plenty of diecasts as well- you didn't offend
Just trying to work on real cars in preparation for next year! :drive:
The car has a 302 from an 85 GT, an edelbrock 600cfm, Performer 289 intake, C4 (hopefully a T5 soon), and new JMC motorsports brakes, Grab-a-Trak 720's, KYB GR-2 shocks, and LED brake/turn signals from TheMustangProject
It's been a great learning experience for my (hopefully) automotive engineering career(see signature)
thanks

We've decided to plunk down the cash for a good job, and now on to colors...
I've been contemplating black or Dark shadow grey w/ blacked out taillight panel
I vote for DSG, what about you?

Sorry, but I just learned soemthing here and have to ask.
Ben, seriously, you don't even have a license yet and you own 2 Mustangs???? Seriously???? If that is true then :worship: to you, because even though my dad and brother had their cars while I was young and I liked to think of them as being mine too, it took me 16 years after I had my license to actually get my first one. Either your folks are lottery winners or you have to worlds largets paper route and saved every single penny. B)

No, my parents bought the 68 when I was 12 for a project car "to keep me out of trouble" which was the greatest thing ever!
So, I've put brakes, suspension, some dressup & a lot of little "fix up" things to get it all working good. Now we're painting it and doing cosmetic stuff.
My dad knows nothing about cars (especially Mustangs) but he knows how much that car means to me after doing that work on it. So, the 68 is mine in 10 months!
But the Cobra is my parents. Once again, they don't even understand the specialty of the 10th anniversary edition Cobra, but I'm going to get it when I get the money, but that will be a few years.
Sorry for the long post, but just answering the question.
