What experience have you had with other cars of the 1960's and 1970's and do they compare to mustangs.

Dodge Charger
Dodge Challenger
Barracuda
Camaro

or any others

Sure they compare, it's just a matter of preference. I'd take any of the cars in that list, as long as I got to keep my fastback. B)

I especially have a soft spot for the Charger, but I think that's because I survived doing a 540° spin through a red light in a '69 when I was in high school. Buddy hit the brakes and only one side of the brakes decided to work. That was fun let me tell ya.

The 727 (if equipped) is not a bad transmission. Heck, I think I've heard of mopar guys swapping T-5s and T-56s into their cars.

I like B-body Challengers/Barracudas. Bodies are seriously prone to rust, however.

...and Id say the "engine to have" would be a 426 Hemi

Our former mechanic had a hemi charger that he bought off a guy going into the army. It has 20,000 miles or so on it. When it started it up, I swear it played Hallelujah Chorus out of the exhaust.

What a beautiful--looking and sounding--car.

I have had a few really solid classics other than my Mach 1. Hard to compare them because they were all big blocks and my Mach 1 is a small block. I always prefered the Mustang style to some of the others....but the one that got away and really was a screamer was a 69 ram air GTO. That thing was heavy but it could really jerk your head back when you shifted gears. I just didn't see the lady pulling in front of me. Drum brakes really stink!

I had a TransAm and it would outrun my bullitt. I liked the styling with the red firebird on the hood. Black with t-tops. A really nice car.

As far as my experiences, cars I or my Dad had owned:
70 Tempest convertible (Dad's) Nice car, but he totalled it too soon to tell

70 Cutlass - best car I've ever owned, beat the heck outa it, ran great and was plenty quick with the "Rocket" 350

64 Fury- can't qualify because it had a Pontaic 400 in it...

72 Malibu w/307 - beater

78 Camaro w/305 3 spd- worst car I've ever owned
these are the only cars I had that kinda fit the category.
Fastest car I saw run on the street was a 69 GTX with a 440 6pack and the air grabber hood

If I didn't get myself a Mustang the other car that I would probably be saving for would be a 1970 Chevelle SS.
Man those things just look pure muscle.

Mine was a 1967 Cougar XR7-GT with a power Sunroof, Not many made! But that 390 S code was nasty! And my 1968 XR7-G with power sunroof J-Code loaded, was my fav car of all time! Looking to buy one, so if anybody knows of one for sale, please let me know! Or a GTE Cougar, want one bad.
heck, I'll sell the Stang in a heart beat for another Cougar!

My former cars...
1971 Road Runner
1971 Challenger
1967 Dart
1976 Plymouth Fury III (ex-cop car)
1969, 1970, 1971 VW Bugs

I used to be a true Mopar man - for many years.

I have a various Mopars over the years - :worship: 1971 383 road runner, :worship: 1971 challenger 440 6pack and a :worship: 1967 Dart drag car - 440, tubs, cage, torqueflite.

I loved the performance of the Mopars - just not the prices. I sold my last car - the Dart - when we had our first baby, for obvious reasons. I still had the itch and really disliked most chevys and decided to buy a Mustang. (I felt that at least its NOT a chevy).

I cursed the first time I did any work on my 66 289 coupe (starter w/ headers in the way) and did not know why I got a Ford. :worship: Now I love the car. Parts a easliy accessible and fairly affordable which makes restoration easier.

Switching from Mopar to Ford made me realize that its not the car or company, but the love of the hobby that I like. I enjoy and appreciate all makes and modles out there, thought there are a few that I like less than others.

I have never owned any of the old Chrylser products. I do like them, but they are way too expensive these days.

A good friend of my sold two 69 Camaro SS 350s in the past year. Both were restored (one to concours specs). They both drove really nice (especially the 4spd). Those too, are getting really expensive.

65 MUSTANG2+2 - I attended the Barrett-Jackson auction last Friday. They had sold a 68 XR7 Sunroof car on Thursday. It was a J-code auto in red and sold for $31,500. I saw it on the field on Friday, and it was a very nice car. Check out their website. It was lot # 414. You don't see many of the sunroof car around.

Here's a few:

- My first car - '68 Camaro. I'd have to say it was a better built car than my '65, and in stock form it handled WAY better. But it hardly matters. All these old cars have inferior build quality campared to modern cars.
- '70 Firebird Formula 400. This car was wickedly fast (modified), but it's build quality wasn't so great.
- '70 Monte Carlo. This car was rock solid, but big and heavy.
- '70 Chevelle SS 454. Yes, this was an LS-6. All I can say is that I sold it for 3 grand in 1980, and it makes me sick to see what they go for now.
- '73 Stang Verts. Had two, one with a 302 and the other with a 351C. Nice cars to cruise around in, but IMO bigger than a stang should be.
- '69 valient. This was a sleeper with a plane jane look and a 340. Pretty bare bones car with scary handling, but fun to race.
- '65 Olds F85. This was a cool car that I was planning on modifying, but m ex-girlfriend...Don't ask!

I was a Mopar guy too......had a 340 Duster in HS and college. Now I cringe every time I see the Dodge Hemi commercials with the two losers and their Duster
