Oil leak and cannot find it 65 289

I had the same problem, the flywheel inspection plate was always covered in oil. I replaced the oil pan and put on a new gasket set. Dry as a bone since thin.
Seems the ends of the oil pan has two rubber gaskets that compress over time and start to leak.
You don't have to remove the engine to replace either. Remove the crossmember, sway bar and remove the bolt on the idler arm. Cleaning the old gasket off is the bigget pain.
Hope this helps, MikeR

Check the rear of the valve covers, sometimes a leak will develop there and run down the heads then the back of the block. It then collects on the inspection plate and appears to be a rear seal or pan gasket leak. Check the easy stuff first......

I can assure you that you do not have to lift the engine....drop the crossmember(2 bolts) and you might need to drop the steering linkage....you can then remove the oil pan. I've done this so many times over the years that I have lost count. This is something you can do yourself if you are mechanically inclined and take your time.

Maybe I am living in a fantasy world, but don't they make an addative that you can put in the oil, run it for a while and then spot the origin of the leak via a black light?
just curious but I thought you did your own work on the car, what's with the price quotes anyway?
good luck.

I don't recommend any of those snake oil leak detectors....much easier to clean all the oil off with Brake clean or Castrol Super Clean....run the car and watch for the leak to reappear.

I got a nasty oil leak coming from the area of my tranny and engine can't figure out where it's coming from and really need to fix it.
Anyone have suggestions
