I've been on a mission for "something different" for all the underhood & body bolts - Stainless Flathead Socket screws with finish washers. Stumbled across www.fordovalbolts.com - not exactly what I was looking for, but some interesting stuff there.... Prices even seem reasonable. Anybody dealt with them?

Anybody got any other good resources?

Yep, I've looked at them. I think somebody posted their link a while back.

A couple other interesting places - although they don't post pricing... :notnice:

Gardner-Westcott
Chrome Hardware Supply

So far, I've found most of what I've needed at McMaster-Carr though. Having a work account is nice...
30 seconds in a drill with some scotchbrite, then polishing compound, and regular stainless shines right up.

And 30 seconds is worth the difference in price.

Here's a couple of LOUSY photo's, just for a preview...

New one on the left, old hex fender bolt on the right:

New bolt on the right, a button-head (experiment) on the left, old hex bolts in the back. This also shows the stainless trim strip on the core support...

These are 5/16-18 stainless flat socket bolts with stainless finishing washers... The Fastforward fastback was using the on the fenders. I plan to replace all the exposed engine and trunk compartment bolts. Total cost ~$20.

Now, I've gotta figure out where to relocate the horns to - clean that up a little too...

Don't know if that's a setup... but:

I actually had to drop them another 4 inches or so from there to clear everything during reassembly. They are Hella horns to make up for the muffled nature of their new location.

These are flat , with the countersunk finish washers in stainless. The OD matches the existing fender bolts, so I don't have "rings".

I experimented with the button head, but they didn't look right since the car already has "rings" from the existing fender bolts - by the time I added washers to cover, they didn't look "right". The flange buttons were interesting, but are only stocked in black-oxide, stainless was available, but it was a special-order. I didn't try low-head, as they were $1.50 per bolt!

Glad to help.

You'll need 5/16-18x1 SS Flat Head Socket screws, part # 92210A583 - a box of 25 is $6.64.

I recommend the nickle-plated brass countersunk washers instead of the stainless - a little lower profile to them. The stainless version DOES have a different shape that I didn't like as well. Part # 92922A034 gets you a box of 50 for $13.09.

My wife won't go with us anymore if we are stopping by Hillco. One time my buddy and I were in there more than an hour (we were suppose to be making a "quick" stop). Hillco isn't a large place and when we came out (she was waiting in the car) she said "How the heck can you spend so much time in there?". We just looked at each other and shrugged
