New to the forums. New project.

Hey guys. Just started a new project working on a 69 5.0. This poor thing has been butchered. Previous owners did crazy stuff to it.

But here is my big problem at the moment. Every time I start it, it fires right up, but it's running so rich it will choke you out with the fumes. I just rebuilt the carb, and put in new point, and plugs. Probably about to switch to duraspark. Any ideas about the super rich problem ? Any help would be appreciated.

To be honest, I couldn't get the jets out. It's an original 2bbl 2100 I believe. I sprayed them out really well and have good flow, but that's all I can tell. But they are stuck in there pretty good. The slots started to come apart when I tried to remove them.

Bummer. That's usually the source of running rich - unless you have a vacuum leak somewhere.

Lol. OK. They spray painted slot of the car. Including the bumpers, front turnsignals, and all 4 marker lights. Replaced the front turn signals with giant yellow fog lights mounted in The under bumper. Used a wire coat hanger to "repair" the throttle cable. Busted off the front temp sensor to use it connect the throttle return spring. Took out all the moving glass and let it chill out in the back seat. Had the main vacuum port from the back of the intake (the one that would be for the vacuum booster) hooked to the air cleaner. Replaced the steering wheel with one off a late 70s Ltd I think.

That is what I've found so far. I haven't even gotten to the interior yet.

It's a bit crazy lol

Sounds like a good project car. As for the running rich problem, maybe a smaller carb would help?

I had that exact carb and never could get that thing tuned right so ripped it off and put a 4 barrel on.

Welcome to TMS and please post up some pictures. Is the carb a manual choke? Is it opening all the way?

I am thinking real hard about that 4bbl switch at this point. Getting tired of tinkering with is Carb lol.

I tried to upload some pics but the app keeps crashing. Going to try it from my computer instead later.

It's an electric choke that has been ripped apart and zip tied open.

Here's some pic finally. One of them is the funky repair to the throttle cable.

As for the carb, I'm done lol. I'm just going to get a 4bbl intake and eddlebrock (I think). Any suggestions to Holley over eddlebrock?

Finally got the charging system working. Replaced all the wiring from the alternator to the voltage regulator. Now I have to figure out where the brake light switch mounts to the pedal, and figure out why none of my dash lights work.
