Need help with my 1965 Mustang

Now i just recently purchased my 1965 mustang for 4,800 and it clearly needs some restoration. The things that need to be done are i need a new
  1. Starter
  2. Electrical
  3. Tires
  4. Rims
  5. Rear Bumper
  6. And all the rust removed from my car
Now on a 1 to 10 i would say the rust is a 5-6. also i was woundering how much would it cost to have the rust removed and how should i go about restoring my car? The engine sounds good, it has power steering and disk breaks with dual flow masters so what else needs to be done?

Good luck, its a long road! Welcome to the site. Is it a fastback or coupe? What engine? I have a 65 fastback that I am trying to get on the road by this summer. When i got mine the body and paint were done, so i did not have to go though the rust removal process. If you have any questions, give me a holler, I have been through the entire car.

It's a V8 289,coupe, the engine is in good condition, transmission is good too, Interior is great and only needs a little adjusting. But the car has a mild amount of rust and will most likey need a new paint job, even though the paint isn't that bad. just the previous owners coverd up the rust with the paint, so oxidation bubles are forming around the car, also the chassie may need work done to it, and maybe the floor pans aswell. Also my right door sags when i open it so i was woundering if anyone could help with that. Overall the cars body needs the most work. How much does it cost to have new metal welded sanded and repainted?

Welcome to the site! Your project sounds a lot like mine did! My car underwent a repaint/body done about 10 years ago... after a new front fender and some replacement chrome pieces, it was about 3,000. And that included having the stripes painted on. i would say they did about a 7/10 on quality. Some spots were perfect... but others they treated like an afterthought. I looks great from a distance, but the clear is starting to bubble in places now, and its going to need another repaint before long.... of course that will be after I wrangle up some more fiberglass body parts to save some more weight.

Pics of car?

Congrats on the car, I have a 66 i've been working on for about 2 years now. A slow painfull and now becoming expensive process. One source I use for parts is C. J. Pony parts. sign up for their news letter and catch the sales they have. If you can wait they have some great deals.
we need to see some pic's!!!

I still don't have any pictures of the car but i have these two videos of the it. Like i said the car looks good and sounds good but i need some advice with rust restoration. How much would it cost to have the rust removed and new metal welded on? can someone give me an estimate. on a 1-10 the car is around a 5-7. some rust is hidden or already has bondo on it.

Your car looks good on the video but you don't have any pictures of the rust. I like it, sounds good. I would get some stainless flowmaster tail pipe (2 1/2"), if you are driving with those turn downs, exaust could come in any rust holes under the car.

I just took a look at your 66 and it looks pretty ideal. Do you have any pics of what your car used to looked like? and how much did it cost you to get your car to where it is now?

Also i read that you work at an auto body shop. Would you be able to throw a price at me involving rust restoration. Im still waiting on the pictures but the rust on the car is bad, im not going to lie. There is surface rust around some spots on the car around 6-12 inches estimated 3-4 inches in width. floor pan rust. cancer hole or holes. some chassie rust. rust inbetween the doors. a little rust in the trunk. i will most likely need atleast new metal welded in 1 spot.

I will look for some old pictures. I had a real fast 92 5.0 with all the right stuff. When I bought the 66 I stripped the 92 used what I could and sold the rest @ swap meets and on ebay, and used that money to build the 66. I go to all swap meets, tag sales, or tips from freinds to get hp parts as cheap as possible. I might have 15,000 but its hard to say. I do all the work my self , body, paint and most of the mechanical.

With no picture it is hard to say, but I would say without seeing your car, 500 - 1000 per panel for body work and the same for paint and then intirior, crome, and mechanical.

****! Car looks and sounds good! The interior is in great shape. Sorry, don't have an opinion on the body work, my body and paint were done when I started my project.

That rust doesn't look that bad, for someone that repairs rust. Your frame rails can be dollied from the inside or replaced. Your 1/4 panel needs to be replaced. Inside your rusty 1/4 after is removed the outer section of the wheel well will need to be repaired or replaced. The other 1/4 panel needs the lower rear section, looks like someone backed into something and crushed the lower section. You can patch the rusty panels but that's a temperary fix and not that much cheaper
