My recent find!

I would like to let everyone know that I had an incredible find last week. While driving to a job site, I passed a '68 fastback for sale. I immediately turned around to check it out. It's a 6cyl automatic, no rust whatsoever ('cept for the battery tray, but we all know that doesn't count). I knocked on the door inquired about a price, left a deposit, and I will pick it up tomorrow.

the car is all original except for a 70's style repaint and mag wheels. It still has the original turquoise int and has the turquoise paint underneath the gnarly paint job. This car is absolutely complete with 55k original miles! I'm so excited because I've always wanted a FB to compliment my '68 coupe.

I'll post picks when I get her home tomorrow afternoon.

Anybody have any project ideas. I was thinkin 460ish block w/ a T5.

Awesome find! Congrats on the new purchase. Fastbacks are going nuts, if you can even find one. So, you're the lucky guy today!

I picked her up today and took some pics. I call it "the bandit" for obvious reasons

The lower rear quarters will have to be replaced, as well as most of the metal under the battery tray, but other than that, pretty clean and solid. Everything his here, plus an aftermarket a/c that is going. For those of you with fastbacks, is mine missing a piece of the rear seat. it folds down, but there is only one piece. Shouldn't there be a piecethat flips over to cover the rest of the back seat?

Teardown begins next weekend, after I haul it to my fathers garage.

The F-150s dont get the V10, the F-250s and up do

as for the wheels... the look alot bigger IMO. Mine are the same (4 lug, 13") but the seem so small by comparison...

I have a 66 fastback, so not sure if it changed but the back seat should be completely hidden when everything is folded over.

Just curious...

Have you done any type of resto/resto mod projects in the past. Further more, have you any knowledge on what it takes to convert to a V8 from the six?

If so, then disregard my post.

If not, I'd do my homework and a ton of reading before I started purchasing a ton of parts.

In most cases ( all of my friends and alot of the folks I've met at shows, etc. ) just put the I6 car back into shape and sell it and buy a V8 setup. It's much less expensive and alot less headache than converting.

IMO, of course.

But you see.. its a fastback, and good solid bodies are harder to find for so little, especially V8s

I also own a 68 coupe that I modified and drove during high school. I know what it takes to convert a 6 to 8, but the car is going to be stripped to the shell anyways. None of the original drivetrain will go back on.

Sounds nice, but I'm tired of seeing shelby and eleanor clones. This one is going be a mustang fastback, much more classy than another cloned shelby IMO.

I'm thinking towards, carbed big block, TKO600 trans, 31 spline 9 inch, rack n pinion, coilover front

Does every 4 lug 68 have those american racing wheels

those are the same that came with my mustang before I had converted them to 5 lug.

If you have any questions just ask me. my car was an originaly a 6 but now its got a healthy 351.

also if you have any questions about swapping for a 9'' or doing anything with the suspension. I did that too. but I would be happy to help.

Those are the American Racing ones? I was under the impression the AR ones were bigger than that and that these were just Mustang II takeoffs...

meh, I suppose AR could have made 13"ers. I knew they made 4lugs, but I never knew they made some THAT small. Well, learn something every day right?
