My 68 fastback

I decided to start a new thread here since I finally picked up a 68 fastback. I went to Minnesota to pick it up. Here are pics of it at the museum and a few of it on the trailer on the way back to Mustang, Oklahoma.

Looks super clean!! What's the specs on the 68? Looks like a GTA? You can send me the Mag 500s if you ever decide to put on a set of 68 specific wheels!

It's a 1968 "J" code 302 w/ a Holley 4bbl. It's a GT w/ a c-4 auto tranny, black interior, and was originally lime gold according to the Marti Report.

As for plans, I'm just going to drive it for now. I need to replace the driver side and passenger side glass including vent windows due to the originals being pretty scratched up. I originally thought I'd paint it like my 06, but I really like the red color w/ the black accents so I'll probably leave the color alone. I do want to have the motor rebuilt w/ a little more umph. I'll probably have the tranny gone through just to be on the safe side. Any suggestions guys????????? I'm open to suggestions. This is new territory for me so fire away. I could probably use some friendly advice.

You know I was jealous when you got the Shelby front bumper before me then I was jealouse when you got the blower before me, now I'm jealous that you got a '68 before me. Why do you always have to be first Robbie? I will own a '67 or '68 fastback someday.

Boy, that was my first and second choice for a 68.... I ended up with a 68 vert that I just restored back but I still can't decide if I like the fastback more or the same as the vert....I just keep swaying back and forth but yours does look like a sweeheart. My vert was originally white but I went red as this one is and I won't look back. What other goodies does it have and what was/is original?

This car is my muse for my Fast Back project. It was built for a guy by Year One that really liked thier Azure Blue 65.

Good Luck

It's pretty much original except it was Lime gold from the factory. The 302 has been rebuilt, but that's about it. I just ordered the rear LED tail lights from NPD along with new gaskets, lenses, bezels, etc. The tail lights are very dim. This will brighten them up w/out changing any exterior looks at all. I really wanna keep it stock looking. I may upgrade the front suspension to a more modern set up as long at it won't change the ride height. I eventually want to put LT headers on it w/ a newer exhaust. I'll also recover the seats and replace some of the interior panels, although the interior is really in good shape.....just has a few scuffs here and there. Thanks for all the kind words guys. I'm really excited about this car.

Again, for those of you that have had experience with these older cars, please feel free to give me any advice that you may have. I'm in new territory here. I'm learning, but have a loooooooooonnnnggggg way to go.

Here are 2 pics of the engine.

Man, that engine bay is clean. A set of Hedman ceramic long tubes would really dress it up as the only thing that immediately sticks out at me is the rusted exhaust manifolds.

Yeah it's gonna get headers for sure. Those manifolds go to crap pretty quick. Ford hasn't changed things either. The ones on my 06 looked the same way before the JBA LT's went on.
