<--- I'm New
#1
Hey Everyone,
I'm new to this part of the forums. I just recieved the opportunity to purchase (from a friend) a 1966 GT Mustang (I don't think it's the fastback). I haven't seen it yet.
What I know:
Red Exterior
White Interior
All Original (GT package)
73,000 mi (original)
What I don't know:
Everything else.
I guess what I'm posting for is: What do I look for? I was going to buy a 2005 but it's not every day this type of opportunity comes by. I'm attempting to get the VIN Number so I can run it through a VIN decoder.
Any tips or tricks?
Thanks

If you don't know mustangs, A) Check out the FAQ here and B) beg/borrow/steal/rent a person from the local mustang club to come look at the car with you. It'll save many, many heartaches.
If the car doesn't look right, walk away.
What do you want the car for--show? Occasional Driver? Daily Driver?

Welcome to the hobby. I was in the same boat 3 years ago. Number one decision is what do you want to do with the car. If you expect to drive it daily, you will have to make some modifications. If you want to show it, get an expert to go over it with you. There is a LOT to look for that could be wrong. If you want a weekend warrior and have the time, money and desire to do your own work, dive in. Are you sure they are original miles? Does the VIN on the door match the VIN on the fender? Does the engine casting number match the car? There are many, many things to know and look for. Call the nearest mustang club and get the assistance of a judge for that year or at minimum, an owner of a car from the same year. If I knew now what I knew then, I could have saved $16,000.
