HOw to value a classic mustang?
HOw to value a classic mustang?
I am trying to help a friends Mom who has a 68 Mustang. This car is very very clean and has a 289 with a three speed on the floor. It is nothing special but it is in excellent condition with somewhere around 155 K miles on it and no rebuilds. It runs and drives as it should. She wants to sell it and we have no clue what its worth.
I am asking here how to find out the worth and who to contact about it. I dont have pics but Im working on it along with the vin. This car is clean as can be for its age. Its not perfect but very very nice imo.
If anybody could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. I know these things are all over the board and its out of my realm. I just have no feel for classic Mustangs. The car is nothing special but I would challenge you to find a nicer 68 in better condition that is not a barrett jackson. This car is nice. Its one you would not be afraid to drive.
Any info is appreciated and thanks.

Its probably worth about $8,000. Main thing to do is search around ebay and craigslist, and find mustangs around the same condition it is in. Then look at the prices and see how they are, and then determine your asking price from those. The selling price really depends on your location. A mustang might sell for $10,000 on the east coast, but take the same one over to the west and you get like $7,500.

Some *** hat who restores cars told her it was worht 20 K.
Idiot. Her son now believes it and he told her son it was rare. He called me and I told him no way. He does not believe me.
The guy told him it was rare. WTF? Nothing is rare about a 289 Mustang from that era and I had one myself. Idiots. IM trying to help but its hard pushing through the BS.
I h ave b een drug into this some how or another????

Well the 289 is kinda rare for the 68. In 68 they used all the 289s they had and then went to the 302 later that year, if I remember correctly. It definitely isn't worth 20K though.
Its a coupe and located in Kentucky. My friend is going to try to get pics for me. Its a blue/green color. It has been repainted but looks good and all stock. I forgot they went to the 302 later that model year. Its nothing fancy at all but a good clean car for its age. Somehow it survived. The engine runs perfect and to my knowledge does not smoke or anything. The car has a bit of rust below the back window and the paint is bubling up. Otherwise its very solid car. If a person bought it they may want to consider rebuilding the engine with so many miles on it.
I have sent out an email requesting pics. I dont know if I will get them or not. IM just a middle man trying to help so please dont throw me under the bus. This is a really nice car though. I wish I had the money and space for it myself. You will be hard pressed to find a nicer one. This one survived because it basically has only had one owner. The lady that has it now got it in a will and has not driven it much at all. It would really b e a sweetheart for somebody that appreciates the older stangs.

If I could afford this car I would just drive it. Its not pristine or rare but its a good clean example of how a 68 was back in the day stock. You would not be scared to death of somebody hitting you but you could enjoy it at the same time. It almost makes me want to put a scheme together in my mind to justify it myself. I need another Mustang like i need another hole in my head but somehow these cars are addicting.
