HOW DO I TELL IF A HAVE A 260- V8

Hey I am a soldier currently deplyoed to IRAQ, when i wam home on leave my wife and mother suprised me with a 1964 mustang. The owner they purchasued it from said it had the org motor with only 45000 miles on it. What i would like to know is how do i tell if it has a the 260 v-8 or the 289 v-8

Hi Junior!

The easiest way to tell is by the VIN #. Have your wife read it off to you. The 1964 Mustangs came with 3 engine codes.

U = 170 cid inline 6
F = 260 cid V8
D= 289 cid V8

The engine code is the fifth character in the VIN. An example of a 260 V8 VIN would be:

4T07F100001
