HELP

My 65's carb is still dripping gas after I shut the car off?? Now it is smoking a bit from inside the carb. And it won't start.

It is pretty much out of gas I think. Gas gauge doesn't work. What do I do??

I also had it warming up on the driveway and opened the hood to see gas coming out of the bottom of the carb..

Last two times I filled it up with gas I filled with unleaded. Later to find out it required premium.. Could this be the cause of some things?

I don't think the type of fuel would matter with a leak. I would pull the carb off and replace gaskets and make sure all fittings are in tip top shape.

If you had loose bolts then you should just have to simply tighten them down a bit. Just don't over tighten them or you'll ruin the gasket.

Thanks. Tightened them and the leak stopped. Hopefully that's all that was the problem.

Glad you found and fixed the leaky accelerator pump. Those are screws.

Should it always be pressed in a little bit? Because I can stil manually release it more.. And why was it squirting gas into the carb after I turned it off?

The accelerator pump is a manual device operated by the gas pedal (or by hand at the carb) - it doesn't matter if the key is on or off. When you first give a carb throttle, there is a lag for the fuel mixture through the jets in the ventura. The spray from the accelerator pump makes up for that so the engine increases rpm smoothly without a hiccup.

Whoever did your tune up and carb rebuild needs a good butt chewin!! I'm guessing you had it done before you moved to AZ...
