Maybe, maybe not, but probably yes. How's that for an answer? It depends on where the most restrictive point is in your exhaust system. If you have nice 2.25-2.5 inch mandrel bent pipes, then putting a 1.75 in. louvered bottleneck on the end will certainly restrict flow. On the other hand if you have the more typical 2-2.25 in. system that was made on a muffler shop pipe bender, it probably necks down to less than 2 inches where it bends over the axle any way, in which case the GT tips would have a minimal effect. It also depends on how much power your engine is putting out. If it's an average 289 that's making 150 realistic horsepower it isn't pushing out all that much exhaust. By the same token if it's cranking out some serious power it is producing a much higher volume of exhaust which makes backpressure a more signicant issue.

Yes, you'll restrict your flow to some extent - but what you may not be barganning for is the sound. Those louvered ends give a none-too-appealing "pht-pht-pht" sound. They take the nicest low rumble and give it a lisp. You can open them up a bit with a flathead scrtewdriver, but you can't get rid of that whispy sound altogether.

Imagine you were a horn player and had spent a great deal of money on a fine trumpet that had a true, rich sound. Would you put a louvered cap over its end leaving only thin slits for the music to come out? And if you did, would you expect it to sound the same?

On a stock to mild motor you're not really going to be hurting anything.
Start bumping up the power and it would become an issue though.

I do agree with the sound issue though, it sounds kinda funky B)
My '66 coupe has a GT valence and I found that using chrome tips was a nice alternative to the trumpets IMO. Of course, my not-so-mild V8 would choke to death with those things too

Agreed.

I love the slick, thru-the-valance look, but the stock trumpet configuration leaves something to be desired in both sound and looks, IMO.

 I seem to be recalling a thread not to long ago about someone customizing the tips? yes/no??? They angled the back and cut out the fins to get the look and performance out of it. Wasn't it this forum?????

Pak.

Edit: Lol, found it pretty quick, for what it's worth.

How about a pair of '70 Mach One exhaust tips from National Parts Depot: $329.95!! They look like they were crushed in a vice.
