I am about to rebuild by 351 but before I do i was wondering about any combinations that any of you have done that would put me up to about 325-350 horse Right now i have 600 cfm holley, aluminum edelbrock intake, 2v heads ( but have biggest chevy valves that i can fit, but cant remember exactly what size) they are allready ported and polished. I am thinking I allready have about 300 horse.

I'm just looking for a good affordable modification for another 25 horse or so.

Probably need a cam if new heads are not a possibility. What specs are your cam at now?

Hmmmm... how in depth is your rebuild gonna be?

Really you want to get a plan together and set a budget.

Identify where and how the engine will be operated, this will guide you on your rebuild along with parts purchases.

If its a daily driver and dependability is the main goal, put togther something that operates in the idle to 5500 rpm range. The next step up would be something like 2500 to 6500 and so on.

Now this is me and if I was gonna do a rebuild, I'd;

A. Get the block all cleaned up, get all the dimensions checked out then torqueplate hone the block and zero deck it and throw a quailty piston/ring set in there (something like the Mahle PowerPak piston/ring sets).

B. As for the heads, were they eyeball ported? Or ported using a flow bench? Were they just hogged out? If they were eyeball ported and hogged out then They really aren't doing you any good. If your considering just using stock heads, consider something off of a V8 explorer, they came with about the best factory windsor heads available (especially the GT40p heads, but with the latter there are header fitment issues). If you scrounge up a set of explorer heads then just basic machine work will do

Well anywhosit its 1/4 after 2 AM so the brain fart is kicking in, 325 to 350 hp isn't hard to get, My brother has a 300+ HP 302 built on the cheap even with all new parts save for the block and crank. All said and done from the carb to the oil pan, he might have a total of 3,000 to 3,500 dollars in it.
