Hi Everyone,

Been reading this forum for awhile but haven't posted. Need to know the best way to modify the front fenders to keep 17" tires from rubbing. Just put on a new set of Bullit wheels, tried to go for a quick test drive but heard the tire rub.

Just did the Granada swap this past winter, will post any problems I have with bumpsteer. Too bad I read the group discussion before I made the change. Would've tried another aftermarket kit instead of the Granada route. My biggest problem was the speciality tie rod I had to order (power steering car) just as I was finishing the project. Is it just me or is eighty bucks a bit much for a tie rod?

Thanks, Mike

I'm assuming you bought the spacer kit to fit those wheels?

The easiest way to roll the fender would probably be with a baseball bat. Not sure you'll be able to use that method with the combo you have on the front now. You'd probably have to put the smaller originals on for it to work.

Nope, did not use a spacer. Found a set of Ford Bullit OEM replicas designed to fit the '65 Mustang without the use of a spacer (+0 mm offset with 4.5" backspacing).
Took me 8 weeks to get them, the company that sells them says they can't keep them on the shelf. Had some crappy snake center caps I didn't like, but replaced them with the Ford running pony caps, they fit just fine.

They look great, am enclosing a pic of the wheel, just ignore the center cap (I did).

Will try the baseball bat first, hate the idea of trimming 40 year old sheet metal.

Thanks, MikeR

what size rear tires are you running? I had 245's on a 8 inch rim with a 4.5 inch backspace that would rub a bit on the lips. I just rolled the lips and called it a day

I'm running 245's also. The rubbing is when I make a sharp turn to the right, the left front tire is rubbing. Called an old friend today that made the swap to 17's last year, he was told to use the Shelby alignment instead of the standard alignment when using these bigger tires.

Has anyone else heard this? When I look at the left front tire it does not appear "centered", it seems to be pushed forward a little bit. When I take the clearance on the drivers side to the fender I get 1 1/4 inches, the same point on the driver's side only gives me 3/4 inches. Is there anyway to adjust the tire from front to back? It's rubbing the fender lip just below the front bumper line.

Thanks, MikeR

You aren't going to fit 245's on the front of a 65/66 without some serious fender rolling. 235's are about the limit without rolling, excessive camber, or other mods.

Rear maybe OK with minor tweaks, but not on front.

Thanks everyone for the info. Will dump the 245's on the front for a set of 225's. Leaves me with an extra set of rear tires to burn!

Thanks for the compliment.

The do OEM replicas, these are the Bullit style in charcoal gray. They fit without using the spacers, made just for the 1960's model Mustangs.

Sharp 2+2 you have there. I go back so far ,that the best advice I can give you is that I could not go bigger on my 65 2+2 than F-70 14"s. Sure do remember that sound the rubbing makes. Good luck.
