Near my house is a white '65 coupe for sale. It's got a Shelby hood and Shelby G.T. 350 rocker panel stripes. It's got American Racing Torque Thrust wheels. It's an automatic and there's a 289 badge on the fender, but I don't know if it really has one. The paint is AWFUL. It looks like spray paint and is rough to the touch. The asking price is $9800! No way that car is worth $10K!

The prices on decent drivers, have skyrocketed recently. $10K for a 289 coupe is just ridiculous. If it was a fastback in decent condition, I'd say maybe.

What's with this sudden pop in prices I wonder?

Edit: Here's an example:

That's someone on crack. There's no way.

I'm sure people are reading about how mustangs are going up in value, they'll read about a such and such GT, or Shelby getting xxxxx number of dollars and decide, "Hey, I can get that too!"

I want an older one that I can DRIVE -- but I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on one! Luckily, I'm looking at the 68-73's and there are still some decent buys in there (as long as it isn't a SE of some sort).

It's nice to have a classic car the appreciates in value not depreciates, but not that high. Only concourse original cars go up there. It's real easy to put allot of money in a Mustang and never see it come back out :bang: . I have about $15,000 est. in mine and I'll never see it sell for that. Not even close. When it comes to these cars you better love it.

Nobody would pay that. Heck I know of a yellow 65 coupe with good paint, chrome and interior that runs well and the guy just sold it for less than 4K.

I love how the interior is listed as original leather too. Did anyone else catch that? LOL! WHat's more, it says 1 owner and all original. YEAH RIGHT! That's a riot with the listed information! Not to mention if that were the case you wouldn't be seeing it under a makeshift carport like that! LOL! What a riot. No one in their right minds would pay that. Not even a fool.

My guess on high prices is the driving craze as the spring and summer driving season comes to fruition. Everyone is pulling the covers off of their cars. Lots of folks are itching to get that classic they didn't have time or money for last year. In a few months as things really heat up, you'll see the prices drop back off. They'll never sell for that high, but you stand a better chance to make more cash right now because of the weather. That's my take at any rate.

Here is a red '66 C-Code coupe; probably in as good or better condition as the yellow '66 C-code coupe that mr-mstng posted. This car sold at Barrett-Jackson for half the price that guy on eBay is asking.

that is the only thing negative about the mustang's popularity: due to demand the prices go up ! All the these people selling old cars know that a mustang always sells, even too expensive !! :bang:

You should come to Belgium and see what they ask for a 65-66 V8 convertible !!! And everybody over here wants to make some money with their mustang, instead of having FUN with it
