Well, um, it has some nice IDEAS...

 

I usually find his cars use his wheels to set the tone of the whole package and many times the rest of the car falls short. As in this case. I would have dropped the fog lights and use a different stripe color. Cloney, what don't you like about it?

 

It doesn't look like a $150K car - it looks like a lot of nicely restored restomods, without the Shelby hoodscoop. I realize there's a lot of work under the car and minimizing under-hood clutter, but is there really 150K worth of ideas there? Nope.

 

You have to expect the car will be "well-done" coming from Boyd. It just doesn't get my wallet out of my pocket for $150k though.

For that kind of money, you'd think he could find some brakes that fill up those wheels.

 

The stripes are "off". Not just the color, but something's up with the dimensions. Maybe not tapered???

The wheels seem OK to me, but the brakes are WAY too small for that size rim.

They have done some things to "smooth" the body, such as no wipers or rearview mirrors, but then left the gas cap in place and added the GT fogs/bars . Seems like they could have done a LOT more to integrate all the "add-on" stuff - tailights, turn signals, etc. While easily removed, the license plates don't help either. I guess I'm trying to say that the sides are "SMOOTH", but the front & back look "cluttered". :scratch:

I'm blinded! Is that steering wheel a cross-section of the rims? Sorry, the yellow is just too much for me with that "bland" interior. And, its an auto. Why is that Beatle's tune going thru my head?

 

I'm going to be different and say I don't really care for the look of the engine compartment. I think THAT is what is out of proportion with the rest of the car.

 

Well, I for one will be making sure I watch that episode in October to see what is really in it (and maybe get some ideas or tips of my own) before I can say how overpriced the 150k price tag is. I really like the American hotrod and chopper shows, and I hate Reality TV normally. The reason is I like seeing the fabrication work and problem solving, lord knows there are enough shows on TV that show you how to bolt on store bought parts already. My guess though for cost, it is all based on what Eleahor fetches, not just a mark up of what is in the car. What remains to be seen is will Carroll suddenly put his name to it and start mass producing one of customs for the rich boys to own like he did with Chip Fooses movie design??????

I think this clearly demonstrates the superiority of Foose when working with muscle cars and other less traditional rods. Everything I see on this Boyd fastback are basically bolt on aftermarket parts, the custom fab is pretty light. Sort of like OCC (they basically only do custom bars, some tanks, and maybe a candy cane or snap-on wrench here or there).

Boyd makes great wheels ... will leave it at that.

 

I agree, always been a big fan of Foose, hands down the winner (several times over). I just wish he had more of an "American" type show to feature his stuff on then say something like Overhaulin. Granted, it's different, but car guys watch car shows and the "it's stolen" gag is only gonna play out for so long until it gets tired very quickly and then dies. He deserves a bigger and better spotlight on the tube.

The Mustang II suspension is a necessary evil for wider engines. Boyd is doing a darn SBF... what's the point?!

Interior is dull to say the least.

Exhaust exit could have been something better... side exit? Some kind of through the valance? Maybe center out a la 69/70 Shelby?

Nice cheesy pedals.

Automatic transmission?

Induction setup is darn ugly.

The undercarraige looks REALLY nice. Rear coil-over is a nice touch. Probably a custom deal knowing Boyd's work.

All in all... B+. Personally, I think my car has more character

After watching a couple of his shows, I wouldn't let a single one of those jokers touch my fastback.

It amazes me that the finished product ever comes out looking that good. His wheels are about it. I agree with the above post. :notnice:

 

Just a reminder... This build starts this Friday evening on "American Hotrod", when they supposedly pull a junker from a barn.

(Is Pop to Top great? Pulled up a 2-month old post, while this car is "fresh news" on other forums. We already KNOW what the finished car looks like! )

 

I think I'll go spoil it for them.

Other than the engine compartment and the rear suspension, the car is about as unremarkable as they come. I think the lavender stripes stink, maybe magnolia or orange blossom wouldn't be as pungant. While the engine compartment looks different, the rear diff is fairly low-tech. $150k must come in from reputation...

Sure, Boyd makes some noce wheels, but I think he missed the boat on this one. Those things belong on some big bad Cheby or street sled, not on something as toned down as this Stang. At least Foos looks to the whole package and style of a ride and doesnt try to force his '30's roadster styling where it don't belong.

Bet MY wheels would have been a beter choice
