if ford had built the cleveland series engines in the mid 60`s they`d be the greatest engines period .. they just did it too late and too few ..

My ol' man had a Torino wagon with the Cleveland - a *very* impressive motor considering all the bulk it was pulling. Sounded and moved like a race car when he dropped the hammer.

Lol I know all about the motor, my dad actually found one of these in the 80's and built it when he had his machine shop (later to sell it to finance his marriage to my mom)

But as far as ford putting this in anything from the factory? I guess if you count a very small amount of race only cars I guess so.

It was more of a crate motor after it was outlawed.

It is, get a new Boss 351 block and you can build it with the Cleveland main bearing size which is perhaps the Cleveland block's best feature.

The Windsor block trumps the Cleveland with its oiling system. Windsors have a main priority system which as the name suggests oils the main bearings first. Clevelands on the otherhand oil the cam bearings and lifters first then the main bearings.

I really hope the 302/351 Clevor engines take off with the new head designs. It would be great to see more intake manifold options (Trickflow has an EFI 351 Clevor manifold and single plane in addition to Edelbrocks Perf RPM manifold).

68~71 429-4v...something about a 11:1 compression and a 4.360 bore and a 1.8:1 rod/stroke ratio (only other over 400 cubes was the mopar 426) just makes me like it...even if the only mustangvariants were the rare bosses in 69-70, or the more common iron headed 71 version... still my favorite engine, even if >650 pounds

I think the best ford overall Id say was the 351C-4v... was a pretty sweet motor, with incredible heads for its day... too bad it had such a short production span in its best form. the 351M with its extra inch of piston weight to use the 400 block was handicapped on the drawing board, the 351w had the nicer fitting smallblock dimensions, but didnt have the C heads...boss 302 did though- maybe it was best of both worlds- big canted valve cleveland heads on a bulletproof windsor bottom end...

then theres those FEs...the hirise 427 was killer, but pretty rare- of course who couldnt dream of a 427 SOHC as the holy grail of performance engines...perhaps the only rarer engine on earth would be the magnesium 494 Can-Am boss429 variant that only Mario Andretti or Bob Tasca could get ahold of...

Ford sure made some stuff didnt they... the only thing I liked better about GM was their simply brilliant one bellhousing fits all idea...man if Ford had done that we woulda had more options than anyone

never heard of it but the picture reminds me of an old magazine article where they build a flathead ford V8 but with the intake and exhaust flipped like it is here. i can't remember the numbers, I want to say 5-600hp. man that thing was cool. I think the point of the article was to show the flathead was still an option for hot rods lol

Are you looking for information specific to the Gurney/Eagle or the 255 in general?

This is a good site for general information . . . http://www.quadcamford.com/home.html

Here some parts information from Cushman Competition in Maine . . . http://www.cushmancompetition.com/gurney.htm

I really like Boss 302, just because it was a small block with great performance
