Hi all--

After dumping most, of not all, of my PS fluid on the ground on the way home today, I'm rethinking my love of PS. I have a kit from VA Mustang that lets you take a PS setup and make it manual. Anyone use this? Good? Bad? Otherwise?

its prob that 'adapter' that replaces the centerlink mount..about 130.00?

I dont have direct experience with that item, but for reference I got a MS centerlink and idler arm for my car for 40.00 instead. YMMV!

Lman, nope. It is a kit that uses the original control valve without changing anything else. It costs $50.

I think I'd rather just replace the center link with the manual version and not have the slop from that control valve.......but that's just me.

Josh--is that a pretty straightforward swap? Swap center links and then pull the hoses?

You'll have to change the tie rods on the driver side too but after that you're all set. Plus you'll have the added advantage of the quicker ratio power steering box.

The parts will run less than $150 if you use all new stuff from a parts store.

I'm doing that this week end with my 66 coupe. I went with the MS center link. I got tired of PS cause of blowing control valves every other month and like you said leaking all the time. I'm disapointed I didn't get a Christmas card from my local auto parts store for how much cash I dropped on power sterring fluid. It's done. I'm not putting up with it any more. Time for PS by arm strong.

I looked in to the kit but decide the center link was best choice. Let us know how it goes if you decide to use it. Good Luck !

Cool! You do the same with the Arm Strong PS setup. If I didn't just--as in two weeks ago--replace inner and outer tie rod ends on my driver's side with PS ones--I'd seriously consider following your lead.

Do you know where it is leaking from? The cylinder probably just needs a new seal kit, pretty cheap considering what the whole core goes for.

But then it'll just be leaking again in a month. I don't know of anyone who has rebuilt the cv and it didn't start leaking again. Another of Ford's great design ideas.

Lets see I have replaced the power steering pump twice, 3 Hydraulic control valves and 2 sets of lines. Still leaked and still blew after a couple of months. There is no wonder Ford went to a Power steering gearbox later. Power assist steering is for the birds. no matter what you do it will leak. :bang:

At least in my case

That's pretty much the way it's worked with my buddys 65 'vert. Leaks like crazy no matter what we've done to it/replaced. I've had the manual steering on my car and loved it. I like how you get more road feel, and It's really never been a big deal in a parking lot. I can see how if you were a little girl or something, it'd be alot to muscle in a tight parking situation, but never a problem for me.
