Cool Any ideas?

I'm looking to replace the 8" open rear axle in my '66 coupe. Does anyone know if a 8.8" from an explorer (or something else) will work? I know the measurements for the 8 or 9", just can't find them for the 8.8". TIA, John

I don't know offhand but google the conversion. I've seen it done in IIs so I don't imagine it would be hard for a first gen.

This thread has a few answers. I didn't read it fully, but it might help

thanks Arin!! I googled it and I've been out in the junkyards looking for stuff (shopping!!) so I'm thinking I've got it figured out (SN-95 rear end). What I'd love to do is to get all of my 'stangs able to use the same size wheels and tires (or close to the same) so it might be cheaper for me instead of buying different wheels and D/R's for all of them!!

Don't bother with the SN95 rear end....won't work...too wide. We've installed an 8.8 into a '69 Fastback and you can get one under a '67 up but they are too wide for a 65-66. If you ran a ridiculously offset wheel you might get it under there but I think it would look bad and still may stick out. The SN95 rear end is wider than the '86 GT rear end we used in the '69 and that is the narrowest 8.8 I have found.

Thanks, Paul, I'll keep that in mind. I'm planning on measuring it all out before buying anything, and yea, a +45mm offset wheel is in mind (b/c thats what I have on the '07). I'm just looking for a cheaper way to get a good axle under this car, and the '84 too!!!
