78 King Cobra question

I was just wondering If anyone owns/has encountered a 78 w/ a 5-speed(stock from the factory).To the best of my knowledge this is the only one in exsistence.

ummm they didnt have 5 speeds in '78 to my knowledge. its most likely and aftermarket addition.

Its not aftermarket,It was driven off the lot with a 5 speed in it.

r u sure? did u buy it in 78? (im assuming you're refering to yours) if so, then that's awesome! or did u buy it from someone else. if it was from someone else, i wouldnt be so sure

either way, can we get some pix of that King Cobra? i've always wanted one to transplant a new 5.0 or a 351 into

It was bought in 79 after being reposesed but the dealer said it was exactly the same as original.Unfortunately I cant get pics being that its in storage some 10,000 miles away.

hmm interesting. sounds good. my main question was, did ford even have a 5 speed tranny yet in 79? thats what im wondering. obviously they did i guess. maybe you have what could be the prototype to the modern mustang's 5-speed

According to Brad's timeline, the 5-speed came in to production midway through 1983. It would be interesting to see an original window sticker or dealer invoice showing that (or maybe a dealer installed upgrade...though I am not sure when 5-speeds began being produced...even in aftermarket form).

s|o|u|p| my, is there is a tag on the right side of the tranny case? if it does have a code it might tell what tranny it had but i dont know...if you wanna post the tags numbers you could it might help
i thought they only had the c4 and the fourspeed but best of luck to you of it having an original 5speed its always great to have a one-of-a-kind-car

man I had no clue they could be had with a 5 speed..my 2 only came with the RAD4 tranny .learn something new every day

i kno, im havin trouble parting myself with them cookies. and as much as i hate to admit it, that old mazda beater has some great memories

i remember the time the door was unlocked and i opened it on the freeway...just to see what would happen...ahhh good times

There was not a 5-speed offered in 1978. Get me the TRANS code off the sticker on the driver's door and I'll tell you what the original transmission was.
