i was checking around on ebay and i saw this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...5&category=6236

i'm in the market for an affordable/practical/good looking/reasonably powerful car and i want a mustang. (although my parents aren't sure practical, affordable and mustang can even be said in the same sentence ) i especially like this body style. is this a good deal? or not. also, are there any problems with this year of mustang that i should know about? this car appeals to me even more because i wouldn't have to shgip it to my home, unlike so many other cars i've liked on ebay (its only like a 11 hour drive i think). any feedback would be really appreciated. i realy don't want to end up driving my dad's old 93 protege i posted this here cuz i figure you guys would know most about them.

Although I'm not a fan of the 71-73 Mustangs, this sounds like a good price for what is included. The car looks to be in nice condition based on the not-so-great photos that are included.

HOWEVER, based on the description of the engine, there is NO WAY I could recommend this car with a clear conscience for a first time driver.

jpony, the detailed description of the Q-code 351 applied to a completely different engine than the one in the car (rebuilt H-code 351 w/ 2 barrel carb).

IMO, if the slightly fuzzy pics don't hide a bunch of rust that would require major resto work in a year or two, then it looks like a good deal. I would check it out personally (yourself or someone you trust) before handing over the cash.

One word of advice: patience.

I've been tossing up the idea of selling my 72 coupe (if the offering price is right). Email me if you want more info etc.

Sorry, I missed this part. "Not included in this auction but available to the winning bidder for an addition amount is a complete 351C Q-code engine as follows: "

Regardless, I wouldn't recommend a 30+ year old car with a big V8 for any begginning driver.

I'll agree with that, I had my 1972, it used to love catching me unawares, and that is a lot of momentum if you lose it!

Agree. These cars get really squirrelly really quick. While this is extremely fun 90% of the time, wet weather will scare the living poo out of you!

If I remember correctly, my mom would put 2 phone books under her b/c she couldn't see over the hood. If you're a shorter guy this is going to be a problem. I couldn't see clearly over the hood when I first started driving, but I was 13.

If you just HAVE to have something like this though, go for it! It looks good and you'll LOVE the burnouts!

Jim

ANother place to look if you are in the market for a classic is:

http://WWW.Collectorcartraderonline.com

That's how I found my '72 Grande. I live in Pa and it was in southern MD. Had to trailer it home with my F-150 because it wasn't registered and had no plates. I paid $4000 and it is in decent sahpe for the age. looks good from about 10 feet, but a little rough close up. And some nice upgrades had been done to the engine.

I'm with you on the 71-73 body style. I went with the 72 for two reasons: it's the year I was born and 73 was more limited in the engine options. On thing I am finding is that the repro parts are not as common as for most of the older stangs, but as they do seem to be coming into popularity, more parts are coming.
