67 Fastback project

I've had this for a couple of years. and slowly working to get it together. It's a Dynacorn '67 Fastback shell and will be powered by a Dart 363, built by Ford Strokers.com in Michigan. It has a custom ground roller cam and ported Trick flow 11R heads. It is internally balanced. They built the long block, and I assembled the rest of the engine. The carb is a QuickFuel 750, on an Edelbrock Victor jr intake. The headers are from FPA and are 1 5/8" to 1 3/4" step headers.

The gearbox is a close ratio T56 magnum I got from Modern Driveline, and the clutch is a Kevlar/organic design. The shifter falls right into the stock location, but the trans tunnel had to be raised about 2". The motor mounts are Ron Morris drop mounts and the trans cross member is a Alston/TCP adjustable mount. This was all done to maintain a 3 drive line angle.

The rear end is a 9" with full floating axles with a Strange case and an Eaton Truetrac with 3.7 gears.

Suspension is Street or Track coil overs using Bilstein shocks, and fabricated upper and lower control arms in the front and a Watts link in the rear. Here's some photos

Must be nice to get started on a build without doing a bunch of rust repair and bodywork! I see this body has reinforced shock towers. Some of the early Dynacorn bodies also had the convertible inner rockers for added support. Do you have a donor for the other parts, i.e. glass, interior, etc.?

Since I had to cut away the floor support for transmission clearance, I decided to put back in a little reinforcement. I couldn't put it on the underside, there just wasn't enough room so I welded in the reinforcement on the inside. I started with a piece of 14 gauge steel and bent it to follow the contours of the transmission tunnel and welded it in. On top of that will be a piece of 1/8" steel plate that was hand formed and will be welded in. When I say "hand formed", that was exactly how it was formed. I beat it into submission cold. Actually I would have used some heat to soften it up a little but I was out of acetylene. This should put a little more strength back into the floor pan. I don't think these reinforcements will be noticed with sound deadener and carpet installed over it.



I still need to finesse the 1/8" plate a little to get it conform a little better before I weld it in. I'm also going to shoot some weld through primer on before welding so there won't be any bare steel in the floor pan.

No donor car, my neighbors wouldn't have stood for that. Most everything either came from CJ Pony Parts or NPD or ebay, except the suspension, engine, trans and drivline.

Just about finished with the brackets for the Contour fans, I used 1" aluminum angle and flat strips for the mounting brackets and right now they are all held together with stainless bolts. I may try out my spool gun and weld some of the aluminum together but need to practice a little on something else before I screw it all up.


I got this drain plug/zinc anode from RotoMetals.com They supply the anodes that Amazon sells, but at about the price. If you get one, be sure and check the length, I had to cut about a half inch off the length so that it wouldn't bottom out in the radiator.


This is a Maier Racing close fit bumper. If I had known how it mounts, I never would have bought it. It mounts by those long screws in the upper edge, and has this funky half moon shaped cutout on the top edge, I have to assume is for gas cap clearance. If I had all known this, I wouldn't have bought it. I'm going to fab some mounts that will bolt up to the stock locations. The white card stock is the beginning of a pattern for the brackets.

Had to see what this bumper will look like installed, so I taped on the quarter extensions and bumper. It will require some work and filling around the outside ends, and a little shaving on the inside corners. Also the contour of the bumper doesn't match the contour of the end caps. Just glad I didn't opt for the CF version.
